I posted thies thread up so we can share some mapping ideas. So bored because you have no idea of what theme will your next map be.
I will start:

Mutiplayer
Theme: Space Station, vertical map
Weapons: Crowbar, pistol, 357, AR, Shotgun, and a Crossbow
Size: fairly large
Features:Has a little bit of destuction

OK thats one of my Ideas Feel free to add more!!

Why don't you tell as more about your idea. What year is the space station set in (current day, future...). What main features will the space station have? How are you going to show off awesome views of earth or the moon.

Maybe you could have a section where you go out onto the space station, the gravity is very low, maybe add in some big containers.

Also I think it will be important for you to have lots of glass and open areas in the space station, and some nice trees, maybe palm trees in there. Have a look at the space station from halo 2. If you like, I can link you to some pictures of the halo 2 space station.

Do you watch the T.V. ? Oh my god ..on the news ...on the ...... poor little driver ...... The truck is so badly damaged ...oh and .....oh my gosh ...the fail load is all over around ......

Looks like ....it is neccesary for a new truck.

Halo sucks in terms of gameplay, but this isn't purely the mapper's fault. The music/mapping I find quite good.

Take some of their mapping elements, they were awesome. If you dont like their space station, play all of the 3 modern metroids.. they have some awesome mapping too.

Oh, and my latest idea. -- I'm going to make an island HL2DM map that's almost completely made of displacements. The whole idea of an island is usually a bit more than most people want to do, so I figure why not.

It's going to all basically be an upward spiral/path to a tower that will more than likely have the crossbow or rocket launcher at.

I have a layout.. just noone gets to see it except dewdle, =D

FFS. Do we have to have this halo sucks debate again. Its a fact that the majority of the half-life community hates halo. I don't care to be honest. But I tell you what, halo has a much larger fan base than half-life, and half-life has an advantage because you're able to create custom content for it, thus, loads of mapping and modding websites and more fans. If you said halo is a crap game, you would be lieing and you know it, accept the fact that its a good game, you just don't like it. And I'm not talking to you half-life genus, I'm talking to other people.

don't worry, aaron. halo isn't a crappy game, the're probably mad because it requires a fast machine :glad: (it's also really slow on my machine too. but i still have plenty of fun hours killing my team members, running away, going back, and repeating until i die. then i just do it even more until i get bored and find something else to do.)

Some people might not feel like giving away their good ideas instead of executing them themselves.
I'm not saying this thread is fail. It's just that you'll mostly be getting either medicore, plain stupid or no ideas at all. ;<

Multiplayer (Sven Co-op)
Theme : SF. Earth Underground .
Size : Multi-levels (about 3 )
Features : Lots of chambers with lava in the first level. In the second level you'll find only in some chambers lava , and in the third one no lava.

Well here's the objectives and story :

You and your teammates start in an underground prison . The scientists there are making an experiment with lava , but something went wrong and a terrible earthquake started . A bit of explosions and your free to go because the prison is ruined ....Monsters immune to lava are appearing (that's only in the first 2 levels ) . In the last level you'll have to battle with the army ....then a tunnel to the earth-grounds and some kind of spectacular finish ...or a music or something ...

Note : It requires some red under-ground textures . You'll have to make it difficile to pass through some areas . Some tunnels with damaged lights (flickering ...) etc.

Also, a post apocalyptic city that I started a while ago but never finished.

yes, I have a few ideas. All I really want to do these days is push gldsrc to it's limits but the map is still running smooth. I have tried doing island maps because I have always wanted a beach assault map where the CT's come in to show either via boats or sky diving and junk. Anyway, I better get to work on it. I also would like to make a purely industrial map, where machines are constant threats to your safety and everything seems very dynamic. They are my two maps I want to complete most. I am not interested in source yet. :plastered:

I'm doing it too, but I don't know if it's possible. Would it be heavy to the engine? If not, you saved my map. Do you think I can make a full map made of displacements?

A map idea for CS Source I thought is making race maps T vs CT, so they have to resolve puzzles and etc if they don't want to die. For example, starting at the bottom of a volcano and lave going up, so you have to jump/resolve puzzles/taking profit of source physics engine etc to save yourself and there's a gift at the end.

Yeah I know, people just want to kill other team but KZ, surf_ and custom map players maybe would like it.

yes Spike, I have played a good map like that done by kreedz, I just think some of the stages where a bit rushed, but most of em are fun as. I think it's called kz_games_b01 or something crazy. Yes, source can do island maps fine, afaik.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter if you make a map entirely of displacements... just dont make it too big - keep optimization in mind - and be aware of how displacements enjoy leaking.

Yeppers, and I apologize, but, consider:

If a Medium Truck Of Fail can make a thread spiral into idiocy, then it was going to die anyway.

Back on Track then:

I would agree with kraken that in that I'd like to push the limits of the Goldsource engine, which after so many years never ceases to amaze in versatility and potential.

The only trouble is is that less and less people play goldsource games all the time, and because of this, all the mainstream mods have quit development for them, which is a shame. There are still new, high-quality goldsource mods out, but they seem to be dwindling.

for these reasons, I will switch to Source as soon as I get a new machine, and probably won't look back.

Truck of Fail isn't funny at all. TWHL needs to get the fuck over it and stop referencing it, and the mods are only perpetuating it by continually posting those lame images every time they close a thread, which seems to be about every day. Yeah, it was real cute the first, and maybe second time you saw that image, but it's just unnecessary at this point. Way to go, guys. Talk about digging your own grave.
