Set in an aged city in the future, you are in an old storm water drain that was built in 2020 for the people of Hexam City. The virus recently found its way to Earth via a wrecked human spacecraft that drifted into deep space 50 years ago. They repaired/boarded the ship and translated the on board documents and revealed Earths location. The virus has infected almost the whole of Hexam city and continue to expand outwards consuming all in its path. Earths single governing force is trying to contain the threat and stop the virus from gathering around the crash site, they fear there the virus brought something with them, something dangerous.

The force has recently swept the storm water drains to prevent the virus from moving through the 'undergrounds', an easy direct way out of the city, and turn off the water flow to prevent the water borne parasite from getting into the ocean. All that remains of them is corpses and plenty of unused ammo.

This map is a multiplayer map from my mod "reddawn". As you can see with the story, its a single and multiplayer mod. Because the map uses content from reddawn, the map has to be run in mod form and requires custom dlls, models... . However, I was able to reduce the download to less than 30mb. So I hope the download size for one map doesn't scare you off. Anyway, tell me what you think :)

Also, run the map in singleplayer mode and explore everywhere ;)

I'm not much of a reviewer, but here goes...

Screenshot impressions:

The screenshots reminds me of FEAR.. in a good way! (which is the reason I am downloading this)

The texturing in some places needs some more thought.
For example the white stone texture in this screeny doesn't fit in at all IMO:

The map looks a bit empty (so was FEAR but they compensated with lightning in a way which can't be done in Half-life)


A quick map review:

+Lightning. I liked it that's all.
+Ambient sounds.
+Use of models (even tho many of them were imports from Source)
+Cavy (vertexed) ceiling and floor looked great and fitted in.
+POISON ZOMBIE! That was sweet.

? Long dark dead-end tunnel, I expected something to pop up and kick me in the ass, but.. :'<
I guess it could be a cool place when playing this multiplayer

-There wasn't much architecture
-No HEV when running it in SP, no big deal.
-The stairs were too steep, and you got injured just by going down it.

I had fun exploring this map, even tho it didn't take very long and there only were 3 enemies (yes yes it's a multiplayer map ;) )
As I judged from the screenshots the map was a bit empty and boxy.
At some places you solved this by putting in some derbis and models and stuff, but at other places it was just dead empty.
I guess this could make a fun multiplayer map for maybe like 4 players.

Wow, thanks man. Nice review :) .

I must admit, I kinda rushed the map on the last two days because I wanted to upload it quickly. One thing I didn't get to fix is I wanted the monsters to appear in multiplayer, especially the leeches in the water. But my map kept crashing when mp_allowmonsters was set to 1 and I still haven't figured out why.

I liked this version, polish it up a bit and it will become awesome. : >
Stairs however, is like the hardest thing to create if you ask me.
It has ruined many of my maps.
Finding the right measures is a pain in the ass.
We could use a tutorial for it, both Source and HL.

Edit:
Oh and I discovered that for those who have the mod PARANOIA installed, well, the mod will crash on map spawn but it's fixed if you remove the openGL32.dll in the half-life folder (which solves pretty much every Paranoia related error what so ever)

Yeah, I usually do my stairs height to length ratio in 1:2, so like 16 units high and 32 wide, but I wanted the stairs here to be much steeper than usual.

There is plenty of architecture, you just need to be able to see it.
Unless you live in one of those disgusting old 60's/70's neighborhoods, now that's square (in sweden anyways).

And besides.
It's a game.
Do you want a game to look just like reality?
No.
You want it to look good and different.
So really, "in RL there is not much arch" is not a good argument, striker

Some of you dlls will overwrite some of the flat-life dlls... so i'll have to recopy his before playing flat-life again? (Is there a way to keep all the dlls from different mods seperate?)

Mapping looks great, and nice use of models(almost cluttered, but I supposed i've never complained about a map having too much detail, so I won't start now!). Textures and lighting looks nice too.

My only real complaint is that you took all that time with the nice mapping, beautiful texturing and model placement, but you left the original HL weapons models in there! They simply don't match the rest of the environment; the original HL weapons are bad-looking to begin with, but look really bad in front of a nice environment.

Anyway, really good work. I can tell you put a lot of hard work into it!

Some of your dlls will overwrite some of the flat-life dlls...
This map is in the form of a mod, so this mod won't overwrite anything that shouldn't be overwritten.
but you left the original HL weapons models in there!
For the purpose of keeping the download size as small as possible, the custom weapon models and sounds from my proper mod (where the map came from) where not included as part of the download. However if you have a look at the screen shots, you will see the custom shotgun model.

Lol @ the water joke.
