That's right. After many versions tried and failed, i'm finally getting some good progress.. i think.
ANYWAY, here's an alpha screenie :
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/2963/kokirigd7.jpg

I'm trying to follow the original scale as closely as possible because i believe it will make a good deathmatch setting. The deku tree will not be accessible, nor will the lost woods, crawlspace, or entrance to the overworld.
Each house will contain weapons, batteries, health etc etc, and i plan on using all custom textures once i refine my photoshop skills.

The hard part is over: getting my proportions right, and making the river look decent. I know it's a barebones 'media' release, as it's just a crummy screenshot with base textures. BUT there's more to come so stay tuned.

Looks fun, obviously needs custom textures but like you said its a whip. (WIP)

So, should I play ocarina of time?

It's that good.

Win idea, but damn it's ugly with those textures :)

Ammo and health pickups should be placed in long grass. Obviously.

It looks... well, boring. No offense. :)
But the idea is nice, building things from the real world has always been a challenge.

Never heard of kokiri, deku tree and ocarina of time, whatever that is, but if you need a playtest, let me know and ill host some HLDM for ya.

HL1 Mapping is good!

Muzz.. I'll email you a rom and emulator (if you really want it). I can't believe you haven't played the best game ever. So many gaming magazines give Ocarina of Time like.. "best game ever" award.
It's basically like oblivion for the N64, only better

More screens in a couple of hours. I'm adding on links house, and the plateau region near the Lost woods entrance, and if i have time, I'll toss some MSPAINT placeholder textures in there for sparkles.

And thanks for not immediately shooting this down for such a crappy release.
It'll get better. I promise.

Did you map this from eye by the way? Cause you could just get a model version and put it in Hammer and just use that as a template for each brush.

It's how those guys remade all the levels for Halo Zelda...Which had an AWESOME song in the trailer but I can't find it anymore :< Wanted to rip it. But obviously that mod was destroyed by Nintendo.

Well, i don't play games on consoles. I've only played on Nintendo (NES) but that was 15 years ago. Now, i only play games on PC.

Forgive me for not knowing "the best game ever".

Still, if you need a playtest, you know what to do.

And again muzz, i can send u the game is you wish :)
I just compiled the completed version. Everything is there expect the paths on the ground, and the fence maze.
Once i get textures i'll put more detail into it.

It is a little better but I have the original textures somewhere on my HD if you were going for that look :> Although I think they are small cause Nintendo used a crazy system where they only used half a texture and the game just warped it around stuff like a circle.

Still looking good. You should add the lost woods :>

And Twilight Princess? I quite liked that. Captain Terror? Not you too ;O I also suggest Majora's Mask which continues OoT and is almost as good. But playing it on a ROM isn't right D: I'd send you my limited Gamecube version but I love it so ;O

OoT/WW > TP

I have tried so many times to pick up and finish that game but I can't. It's droll. Wind Waker just edges out OoT, but OoT has more memorable locations - Kokiri for one.

You should do Goron City
Will do. That's a great idea!
wow the new textures really brought it to life, it could be different lighting than last time?
I didn't touch the light_environment, and i won't until i have all my textures. It took me a good 30 minutes to get that bark texture to tile in MSPAINT. Same thing with the railings and fence.

I'm currently devising a way to 'steal' some textures from the game and clean them up a little bit. I want the layout to be spot on, but having those low-res textures in a HLDM map won't be pretty at all.

Again, thanks for the input. Next update won't be for a little while I'm afraid. I have class 9am-9pm tomorrow, working a double on friday AND saturday, and i have to go in at 3pm on sunday which leaves me very little time for all my homework / sleeping that i'm going to have to do.
I might have some time after class tomorrow, but nothing major will come out until probably next week.

EDIT - - -

Darkened up the textures and used paint.net to do some basic blending from the grass to the wall. Textures will probably change. But this definitely looks better.

:heartbreak:

Anyway, good job so far, but you need to refine those Photoshop skillz immediately. It should be a fairly easy thing to recreate, considering how horribly blocky the original was. Just make sure you don't 'GoldSrcize' it up by trying to square it all out. r_speeds could be a bitch, though. Best of luck.

...Great, now I'm going to have to one-up you with a Hyrule Field recreation.
Posted 16 years ago2008-02-28 12:08:07 UTC Post #246782
well if you're going to you do that, i suppose we can just team up and do a map pack. Say the inter-dimensional rift from zen caused a portal to open up at the temple of time, and you have to eradicate the gargantuas controlling each temple. :-P
and instead of a horse, we can have a go-kart.
then we can port it source and have a party.

ANYWAY

My first class got canceled today so I'm free until about 2:30.
And those textures were paint.net. They don't have a blend tool, i just layered the grass, erased a bit, and changed the alphas.
God i have to learn photoshop... and fast.

Next thing i have to work on is getting some interior textures for the houses, making sure everything is accessible, then i have to move on to weapon placement, and sprite placement.

I plan to incorporate an off-set grid of yellow, gray and blue sprites to mimic the woods feel.

Yes, habboi. I had to do some digging inside of the forum because the original link was dead, but i got the textures. I just have to convert them into bitmaps, load them into wally, and see where the best use for them is.

And i was also thinking about having the player teleport in and out of the houses, but I'm not too sure how that would work game-play wise. It's extremely simple to do, so depending on how play-tests go. I might implement them :)

@ Urb and Spike: Thanks :)
I was also thinking of modeling hearts and shields (Or rupees). To act as Medkits, and batteries, respectfully.

Next update may come tonight if i get out of work at a decent hour.. What a crappy day. I'm workint 10:45am - 3:00pm and then 4:00pm through... i don't know. Maybe 8:00pm ?? Either way, it's going to be a looonggg day.

Well nobody has played it yet captain, I have not even released it.
I admire your time-management skills
Thanks for your admiration, but I feel my management skills are lousy. Of course that's just my opinion. Example: Immediately after work, i went to my dads house to play poker with a bunch of his friends and my brother. (i broke even) Anyway it ended up snowing last night and it took me 30 min to get home instead of 10 because i had to drive like 15mph because i was following some idiot in a hummer who was too afraid to turn on his 4 wheel drive. I drive that cavalier, mind you.

ANYWAY

My work schedule is the same today as it was yesterday. So my next step is going to be replacing the textures.

After that I have to place the paths on the ground, Finish the fence maze up near the entrance to that other maze where you get the Kokiri Blade.

Then I have to detail each house as it appears in-game, place weapons, mess with the lighting, add the sprites, and I'll be ready for the beta release!

I'll still be posting screenshots. So stay tuned. I may have something tonight.

- It's about time I'm excited about a mapping project again -

No actually it's an oasis in New Mexico.

Well this map is taking a drastic turn i guess :)
Now that the new competition was unveiled, I'm going to turn this into a zelda map-pack, or maybe even a mod if i can get the time. Once finished though, i will strip the entity set-ups and release a DM version like i originally planned to.
