For some reason, right at the beginning of the game when Alyx mentions a "portal storm" and the explosion or wave or w/e you wanna call it reaches the area im in, my computer restarts... is it supposed to do that or is there a problem with the installation?

Haha, no it isn't supposed to do that.

My guess is you need to update your drivers or your PC is broken.

where would I update drivers? =o

Oh dear. Well we all learn sometime.

First you need to know what graphics card you use. Typically Nvidia or ATI and go on their website. If your driver's are outdated then Steam warns you so did you see any messages like that when launching EP2?

Did you upgrade the graphics card or the memory recently?

Try not ignoring the outdated drivers messages. That's bad.

Update them and see if it still happens. :)

the question still remains..."how?"

Everyone is wrong in this thread. Your original assumption that your pc is supposed to restart is correct.

Find out what graphics card you're running.

Go to Start Menu >> Run >> Type in dxdiag >> Let that load up >> Click into the Display tab >> Under Device, look for the field "Name" >> The name is what your graphics card is

If ATI card: go here.

If nVidia card: go here.

If any other brand: buy an ATI or nVidia card.

It's not rocket science!

turn settings down, delete client registry.blob, run memtest, get a video card, delete local files and redownload the game, reinstall steam, format your computer, buy a new computer.
