I've come up with a reference (sort of)

In my conversions, gordon is ABOUT 6.08 feet tall according to the "dimensions" tutorial and my reference of 1 unit = 1 inch

I took the standing obstacle height (73) and used that for inches... it comes out to 6.08333 feet. shrugs

This is true. Id also say that 1 unit=1 inch. Or around there at least. Its sad that we are nerdy enough to check out the heitght of one unit and make a reference to a real unit of measurement. HAIL THE NERDS OF TWHL!

ROFL.

Well, if you must duplicate houses and such, it's nice to have a point of reference.

There is no proper scale, everything's to different proportions in HL.

and i know why.
i real people have a vision sight of 180 degree
in first person shooters that is 90 degree. so everything will look different

That's right indeed... I guess it has to do with the view angle. It's 90 degrees wide, but in reality we can see some more than only 90 degrees. In the console, type "default_fov x", where x stands for the degrees.

Mmh, I also noticed smaller view cones look better. Probably because the monitor screen only fills a certain part of your sight... Interesting...

I challenge someone to make a room EXACTLY scaled to 1:1 (unit:inch) and post it on the map vault... I'm sure it would look pretty good.

I would but tonight my measuring tape broke.

The last time i tried making something to 1 unit = 1 inch it turned out looking crap :

if you want everythign on right scale you will need fswideview and about 3-5 monitors and 3 very powerfull video cards of all 256 mb and same type if possible. and 256mb. and then you would need about 1024mb ram to load. and then you will need a new prog wich will split up all the data wich is coming in your computer and split it over 3 vid cards wich will splitt it in a 5 views.
and of course a very powerfull processor.
this should be about it

I don;t understand why my idea is such a curse to you guys... read the dimensions tutorial... I'v done the math - even the width to walk in between things is 30 units (2.5 feet, which is the standard door width for inside a house)

Trust us, it doesn't work, everyone wishes it does but it doesn't. Valve didn't make everything to scale.

It would look strange from a distance, anyway

Esmajor, try it out for yourself. Some things will look right, some things won't. There is simply no real conversion rate that always works.

You're free to use it as a reference, but keep in mind that it doesn't always work. The view cone of the player is different than our view cone, wich does malform the environment sometimes...

Lol. I set the grid size to 16 and a standard room is 9 or 10 blocks tall when zoomed in.
m0p m0pIllogical.
