Back with some weird problem.

I only started getting this error quite recently.

So what does access denied mean?

No idea, but I get it every time I try an expert compille. Any Ideas, guys?

The time I get these errors seems to coincide with when I installed steam HL.

Hammer still points to the WON half life. (which is still installed)

Could that be it?

Edit Edit: What am I thinking, why am I not using the compilator? I'll be back shortly ;)

Of course you need to change all your settings so Hammer points to Steam HL, Hammer 3.5 doesn't auto-configure itself like Hammer 4 does...

You don't understand, Hammer is completely configured to work with my WON installation.

I was just pointing out that I have steam Half life also installed on the same computer.

Enabling wad auto detect allows it to compile, but then i get bad surface extents errors ingame.

It looks like it still cant find my .wads

First, make sure that all the wads that you need are in your valve directory.
Then in Hammer, check if those wads are actually loaded (in the texture wad list).

If they are, its probably still a good thing to remove them all from the list, then add the wads again.

Then close Hammer, so that those changes can take effect.
Then reopen Hammer, open your map, save, and export. Then recompile. Hopfully this'll fix the problem.

I also recommend you to clean your rmf directory, by deleting the junk files created by the compile tools. Do this once, because the Compilator will delete those junk file automatically everytime you compile, making sure the junk files are always up-to-date for the tools to work with. Just make sure you delete all but your rmf and map files.

Do you have a water brush in your map with one side as another texture? that'll give you mixed surface extents every time.

Have you tried moving all your custom textures to the steam folder set?
Steamapps/halflife/valve

And you usually want to limit hammer to 8 wads.
If you can, try using wally to combine a few of them.

And have you tried wadincluding the wads?

Do you have multiple hard drives? This can sometimes confuse the compile-tools. If you have multiple hard drives, move the compile tools to the same hard drive you have the game installed. (Then you of course need to change Hammer's settings in the "Build programs"-tab so the filepaths point correctly to the new location of the tools.)

Problem Fixed! It compiled full with no errors, and the map loads with no errors.

The solution?

Moved the compile tools to the sierra/half-life directory.
