They need JUST HL2 correct? (so I know what all I am buying for them)

HL2 standalone (comes with Lost Coast) is $20, and GMOD is $10

Before I do this I need to make sure I wont be wasting money

smacks forhead

NVM I found it.....
This game requires that you own a Source engine game such as Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2, or Day of Defeat: Source. Click here for a full list of games that meet this requirement.

You can use features from any official source games you have installed. When serving a game, make sure you don't use features from games your buddies don't have. If they just have HL2 they won't be able to see models from TF2 or CS:S.

Also, use the edit button. Don't double post.

I understand the irony of that seeing as this double posted but I am sure a mod will fix this. Thanks.

I believe so. I can't say for sure but don't you get it with HL2? Or in fact any Source game since it's free. You just download it off Steam and it configures automatically depending on the game.
