Since I have two ideas and a project I'm starting to get bored with, which would you guys rather play?
1. Another Black Mesa MOD. This time you're a janitor. No custom models aside from Opfor hands.
2. A Resonance Cascade story, where the player is a cop. Mostly Zombie themed, with new models for the scientist and barney to fit with the theme of civilians and police officers.
3. A sci-fi MOD. The player is an HEV suited Maitenence Officer, when his space station is attacked by an alien force. I may have a Pipewrench instead of a crowbar, And a few extra models so the NPC's don't all seem the same.

So, what would you guys rather play? Your feedback may have a great impact on my desition. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, if you have 3 different possible stories that are that different, you should probaly do some more planning to see how far each would go before asking us which one we would like to see.

These look like three spur-of-the-moment plots.

Edit: I think I'm going to go for the Sci-fi just for a change. And because I've been trying to make one for a while, but It just did'nt work out... mods, feel free to close the thread, I think everyone's done here.

Sci-Fi isn't bad at all, it could be like Darkstar.

BTW, why do you keep capitalizing "mod" like that? It's short for modification, it doesn't stand for anything...
Posted 15 years ago2008-12-17 22:06:28 UTC Post #260185
Well, I... I don't know why I always type 'MOD' instead of 'mod'... And the sci-fi mod has had a few incarnations as a Darkstar style adventure, but I've never actually been able to finish it before getting bored. BTW, and names for the sci-fi? I need the space station's name before I can get started... :tired:
And here I was thinking Cleaner's adventures was supossed to be "Kliner's Adventures". I always asummed it was spelt wrong...

There is a mod called Kliener's Adventures too. It sucks hard.

Personally I always like playing Black Mesa themed mods (considering they're well done) as it makes the scale of the facility all the more impressive.

However a Sci-Fi theme cant be bad either. But an HEV suit? So its still based on the Half-Life universe?

Darkstar used HEV too... It's not really a HL HEV suit per se, More of a Maitenence uniform that protects against hazards. I may have it double as a Space suit, but you'd need a helmet first. I am going to use the Opossing Force charger textures, to help get away from the whole HL theme. So, yes It's an HEV suit, I'm using the same code and model, but it's not an HEV suit like in HL.
EDIT: I've decided to call the mod "Colony 42". Any other questions can go here as well for the sake of saving space.

1. Done before. Google Janitor's Adventure, I think.
2, 3. Fairly unoriginal.

Keep in mind that HL was modded to unbelievable extents in almost any possible way during the 10 years of its glorious existence. There's hundreds, if not a few thousand Black Mesa-themed mods, so making something original out of that story is now close to impossible. Same applies to sci-fi and zombie mods. The way to go with HL nowadays is something completely oddball and out-of-the-box. Think unique gameplay style/techniques.

Yeah, I know, But I can't code... I'd go on to HL2, if I could get Source SDK, but I can't even update steam with my internet connection, so I'm doing HL mods until I can get to a faster internet connection. I'll do my best to make my mods as original as possible, though.

JeffMOD, just go ahead and make whatever you like, as long as you enjoy making it. Who cares if its a Black Mesa themed mod, Black Mesa is WIN!

Save yourself some trouble and just make some HL Single player with little modification.

That's almost what I usually do... I just add a bit more modification, like new models and textures... And thanks for the encouragement, you two.
Edit: was looking through the thread... Thanks for the encouragement as well, srry!

First off all they all have been done before and they're fairly unoriginal to start with. Furthermore, I'd say Black Mesa ( :freeman: ) is sorta Sci-Fi already, so you're kinda mixing up nr. 1 with 3. And you know BM has some evil zombies, so might aswell blend that in with 1. and 3. But heh, even when you do set them apart they've already been done thousand times over and over again.

But it doesn't matter that much tho, if you believe your idea is a good one then why not attempt it? I mean, just because it is unoriginal doesn't mean it isn't good or can't be fun. People often mistake originality for making a good mod. That is a myth. Surely an original plot or general idea is well appreciated, but that doesn't instantly mean it is a fun idea or a well-made idea. So all i'm saying, just go with what you think is best. I'll be keeping an eye out for your mod, whatever it may be. :D

Thanks! but you may be keeping an eye out for a loooong time. I have yet to finish a mod, and have only finished (to the point of release) three maps... But I try. I think I'll keep the mod brief, instead of going for 40+ maps.
