Any idea how this could be done with Milkshape 3d. Working on an oil lamp (see below) and ofc I'd love to have a glass arround the source of light. I've searched the internet and every tutorial at my disposal but can't seem to figure it out, ingame the model seems as if the glass was painted 255 blue as that is the texture I used there.

Hmm im not sure cause i havent tried modeling yet. May not be the best way but just a thought... Could you break it into 2 models and have the part in question act as a diff. brush then just doing the good old glass, texture, low render fx?

Sorry i cant be of help, wish i could cause that thing looks really nice : )

make the texture additive, either in milkshape or using Jed's HLMV, then get the DLL files for model transparency. It should be transparent ingame without any modification after that.

Fonzies method is how i used to be done but there is a checkbox in Jed's HL MDL Viewer that lets you change textures to chrome / additive on the fly and then save them. Handy to have the program anyway seeing as it usually lets you check the appearance of the saved model as it would look in game.

Grab it: Here

Oh yeah. And you need either the transparency DLLs for HL, or use Steam version. Also, Spirit of Half-Life supports transparency in models too.

I'd suggest taking the blue texture and making it more glass-like, and you can make it chrome and additive at the smae time, too!

Unfortunately the Goldsrc engine doesn't support transparency on model textures. The best you can do is make something additive, as stated above, or you can use two seperate models and render the glass as "transparent" in Hammer.

What lies.

Also, just set it to additive, and your good to go.

I could never get transparency to work for Half-life models, but if urby and co. says it's possible, it's definitely worth a try!
