1.5a1.
It's the latest official version that doesn't have ugly sparks over NPCs when they think.
Also, 1.8 has no source.
1.5a1 is the sprit version of choice for most modern spirit mods.

You mean 1.5 Alpha 4? There's no Alpha 1.

can u tell me what features does Spirit mod bring?
Posted 14 years ago2009-07-25 09:03:49 UTC Post #270831
Tons of stuff.
A particle system,
a 'movewith' a feature that lets you move an entity with another
(think func_breakable moving with a crane)
You can tell hammer whether an NPC will be friendly or hostile to the player, so you can have scientists afraid of the player, or assasins that don't shoot him.
You can tell the engine what model to use for an NPC, so you can have more than one type of barney in your map.
Speaking of barney, you can give him a 357, model not included.
There's a lot of stuff you can do, I've just scratched the surface, but these are the ones I've been using most, they're simple to do, and very useful.

The only problem is that you can't enter competitions with Spirit.

Another great feature that I loved was you can have a 3D skybox.

Both good points.
Compo entries aren't allowed using spirit, but there is a 3D skybox, too.
I should use that sometime...

I was using spirit but since I am still learning I decided to swap to normal Hl so I could learn on a platform that allows me to enter the competition, plus I don't need Spirit's advanced features.

Static Friction is based on 1.5 Alpha 4...so far pretty reliable

Same here with Colony 42. No custom code though, just the base 1.5a4.

Spirit of Half-life 1.8a1

is it the latest version?
or 1.5a4?

damm... does it come with weapon features?? or something ^.-

Spirit of Half-life 1.8a1 is the latest version but the source code isn't available and JeffMOD says it has
ugly sparks over NPCs when they think.
The second latest and most used version is 1.5a4.

i am reading "features page"
env_fog - :)

Mapmakers often want the player to start the game with an HEV suit, without that tiresome logon speech.

yes :>

My favourite feature is the option to use multiple skins or models for certain NPC's. Rather than having hundreds of identical barneys in each map you can create variety's with minimal effort (depending on modelling / skinning abilities)

My current Black Mesa based mod (Complex Opinion) will have security guards from different sections of the base in alternating uniforms with letter codes on their armour. :)

I like the physics entities, you can do some really cool stuff with them. A member of the Spirit forum built a gravity gun and I have built a remote-controlled mini-tank for Flat-Life (which uses Spirit as a base). Building something like a jet pack wouldn't be too hard.

It can also play MP3 music or ambience.

that doesn't have ugly sparks over NPCs when they think.
Actually it does...now I know why i'll try to fix that.

@ninja: Yeah...this is a common problem, I really don't know what causes it but we have to be very careful as it happens alot

ninja and hotdog:
that's caused by missing cg.dll and cgGL.dll. Those two dlls need to be in the Half-Life/ directory. I think they're in the Additional Files folder.
