All right, I've got to address this:
things I hate: when people don't tip
Tips are supposed to be a generous bonus by the customer for good service. But now they've been factored into employees' pay as a given, which gives owners' reason to lower employees' hourly wages.
So don't hate the people who don't tip. Hate the system for saying tips are a good reason to lower your paycheck.

However, giving a tip also reduces the chances of a grumpy waiter doing something to your food. haha Although taking it out of peoples payslips is just wrong :(

I always give cash tips. It can be pocketed and is not taxed unlike the additional tip amount you can give when you use a credit card.

That's not a "however". That's exactly what I addressed in my last post. Tips are expected by everyone, and they fucking shouldn't be. If they weren't considered a valid reason for lowering minimum wages then it wouldn't be a problem.

Also, you tip after you eat. If the same waiter sees you next time you eat whever and thinks, "There's that guy who didn't tip" then you need to eat there less.

I tip to keep people happy, but I'm not a "generous tipper" to someone who simply wrote down "medium rare steak and side garden salad with italian" and passed it to a kitchen. They didn't do anything special, and therefore I don't feel obligated to shell out an additional 25% of my meal cost to say "nice job, mate!" I'd much rather save that for a waiter who actually deserves it. It saves me money and it makes the better waiters feel good.

I miss her ): ). So it's not hard to have another girlfriend. And the second girl is not even girlfriend, we just friends. It is hard to explain. I don't made any sins.
Thanks for explaining that girlfriend thing Fournimfourtor. We're cool. :glad:

As for tipping, I always tip if I have enjoyed the entire meal and the service is happy and polite...so yeah, not very often.

Well tips are'nt really a way to lower waiter's wages. I only get payed like 2.13 an hour. Tips are all I make and if you go out to eat you should understand that you need to pay for the service of a waiter. Well if your waiter sucks and messes up stuff than they don't deserve a tip but I mean if they do a great job, are friendly, and take care of you than you should expect to tip them. If not than go to mc'donalds where you don't have to pay for great service. Its a simple rule of common curtisy. The only person I know that never tips steals, litters, bums, and brings my friends down. Yea and cash tips are great rim! :) Taxes are taken out of all credit tips which comes out of my paycheck. And im supposed to say how much I make in cash tips so they can take taxes out but I usually just say like 3 dollars like everyone else does.

Well anyways ive been a waiter for about a year and a half and its really not the best job. Sure you'll make 150 bucks one night but the next you might make 20. Its very unsteady and im actually looking for a more stable job right now. Most jobs I've had were more labor where as waiting is more talking and simple things but I like hard jobs that you use both mind and muscle.

Zeeba, I already covered all that. And 2.13 an hour is waaaaaaaaay below minimum wage. Again with the tips being considered a reason to lower hourly wages. You should be getting paid more by the hour.

Now that reminds me to retract this statement:
If they weren't considered a valid reason for lowering minimum wages then it wouldn't be a problem.
Expecting tips would still be a problem because minimum wage employees think that their minimum wage job is worth a lot more than minimum wage, which it isn't. You'll get paid more for doing things above and beyond your job through tips, but how much do you honestly think it's worth to write something down on a piece of paper and bring back some plates? It's not physically exhausting, and it can be done with minimal customer interaction. "Hey, I'm your waiter. What'll ya have? Got it, I'll be back with your food shortly"

I can't stress enough that tips are a variable extra, and you shouldn't expect to receive them consistently.

Texas: Effective July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage increased to $7.25 an hour.
I smell a lawsuit.

Very similar to the UK minimum wage which is ?4.77 for 18-21 year olds. ($7.90)
?5.73 for 22 year olds and up. ($9.50)
?3.53 for kids still in free education. ($5.85)

Wow! What a can of worm everyone has opened up.

Actually, back when minimum wage was still 5 something waiters and waitresses were getting 2 something an hour plus tips. I am not quite sure how this is legal but it is and I have lived in a few different states. I am not quite sure what the minimum is now and if they got a bump with the wage increases over the last two years.

I don't necessarily agree with you World Crafter on your opinion on tipping. No, I shouldn't assume to get a tip "everytime" but wouldn't that be nice if everyone did. Some restaurants now simply add 15% to your check--everyone pays and the economy goes on.

I have been in food for 10 years now. I actually deliver the food. I am not a waiter and until recently was paid pretty nicely. I got minimum wage for driving and being in the store and then got 1.25 per run and tips. This was all good until the minimum wage increase because now we are considered "waiters and waitresses" so the can pay us less. I make a split wage now--minimum wage in the store and 5.25 on the road.

Now how wrong is that? Been making minimum wage for eight years and all of a sudden, I am at a split wage? What!?

And yes, people should tip ALL the time. Good god people, we have to make a living too. Someone has to serve up your food "everytime". LOL

Working service jobs can be pretty damn tiring (depending on where you work). If you have a lot of customers at once it gets very stressful real quick, and you run into rude assholes that are impossible to please way too often.

Around here tipping about 15% is standard. I've only refused tipping once and that was because the waitress was being very angry and rude, so I took my little revenge :P

They can pay less than minimum wage because of the fact tips are a taxable income. Which is bs. Plus anyon not following the minimum wage rule doesn't have to abide by the break laws. Meaning it's completley legal for a manager to work you for 14 hours straight, open to close, without any break.( lunch or otherwise) which is the very reason why I quit Applebees. No to mention that fuckkng lady who thought the grill lines on her salmon were carcinogenic.... bah. I'd complain more but it's 3 am and iPhones are crap for typing on.

I had a kid in a music class named German but everyone called him herman. Didn't know you were an architecture student too! Lol "I get that a lot in other forums", you are geeky. :walter: And to worldcrafter, you say that it is'nt physically exausting at all to wait on people? Well if you have'nt been a waiter than you have no idea what your talking about. Ive had so many jobs including being a cart/lot loader at homedepot and waiting is by far the most draining. Dealing with people and there food is something else. Tips are not a variable extra, restaurants can't afford to pay their waiters minimum wage. If waiters didn't get tips there wouldn't be any and you could never enjoy having one. You'd take your date out to a buffet or help your self dining. Isnt that romantic and enjoyable? Not at all...
