I think this post deserves to be in the forum, after all, it affects the entertainment industry as a whole, including gaming:

Anybody here thinks this is a good idea? To me, I just can't picture Marvel Comics as a Disney product. I can already see the Punisher as one of the "offending characters" that the Disney executives would want to get rid of.

Never cared much for either, so can't say this strikes me in any way.

Wow The_(c)Striker, you just came up with a cool sounding name there.

Anyway, for what I have seen on some of the other major entertainment forums that I visited after this news report broke out, is that people in general seem to be divided on this, while the rest are not sure what to say.

I'm not sure what to say.

I suppose it can't be worse when Warner Brothers Studio bought DC Comics back some years ago.

I suppose it can't be worse when Warner Music Group started being aggots back some years ago.

Okay then, I understand now.

If Disney really want to improve Marvel, they can start by lowering those damn high cover prices across the board on their printed comics. That "$3.99" shit per issue is just to high. I remember when they hit the $1.99 mark years ago, that was when I stopped buying them. That's why these days I do all my comic book reading through the downloadable ".CBR files". Of course, you will need a CBR reader like this free one: http://comical.sourceforge.net/

I doubt they'll lower the prices. Big empires like that are all about a profit.

I don't believe things will change very drastically, if at all. Marvel will remain Marvel, just under a bigger name.

Disney is doing some strange strange things at the moment.

Anyone else heard about the steam punk themed game "Epic Mickey?"

That shit is fucked up.

@ potatis_invalid: Maybe not to you, but to most people $4.00 for a regular comic book is a lot, especially if you grew up buying them at well below $1.00 each!

@ Urby: Whoa!,....that steam punk themed Disney stuff is news to me. Oh man, those pics look like something out of a nightmare from movie director Tim Burton! Nice find.

What a fucking shame. They only want violence, and don't want to children to be violent and rebel. But they provide the children with violence themed cartoons. This is a shit I would never thought about, mickey mouse transformed into a robot ? Apocalyptic view.

What's next ? Terminator Tom&Jerry, Fred FlintMetal ?!

(c)Striker, I'm sure Epic Mickey isn't a game for children. Is it a big deal if the same characters are used in games/movies/comics for both children and adults?
It's a shame it's a Wii exclusive...

Potatis, I'm sure any child who saw the characters from that game would be tramatized for sure, and I'm sure some parent will buy it without looking at the rating and illistrations, ect., thinking "It's mickey mouse, so it must be kid friendly" so some small child is going to see them.

Oh man, I just found out a juicy little detail about this "Epic Mickey"!

Okay, here's the facts:

The main guy behind this game is one "Warren Spector", who designed the game "Deus Ex". He now heads a game studio he helped form and then later taken over by Disney, called "Junction Point", which apparently it's first in house game will be this steam punk Epic Mickey game for the Wii. Now, here's that little juicy detail I mentioned:

Guess what well known game engine they are using to make this game that most of us seem to be hating already? Well, I won't say, read it for yourself on Junction Point's Wiki page and be shocked.......... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junction_Point_Studios

I don't even need to look at the page, you made it obvious enough. >__>

I remember some other random game that used the source engine, something about vampires...?

And here I thought Kingdom Hearts was ambitious for its time. That Epic Mickey thing is taking it to a radically different level.

AT: There's actually quite a handful of games that used the Source engine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_(game_engine) Check the list at the bottom.

And let's not forget since this will be a Wii game, those sensor motion Wii-motes will also come in to play making the game potentially even more off-beat. No doubt Nintendo and Disney will want to release this game as a show stopping killer-app on the next E3.
