There's a HL texture that is exactly like that one but without a knob. It's right next to it, too.

Alright, while I put my room map on hold I began mapping my lost_tech_2. Usually when I make a map I do it one area/room at a time and it takes me forever as I don't know what will come next. With this map I drew out the entire floor plan and now im mapping out a basic version of it to get all of my scaleage right. I've never mapped so fast before, the entire map is pretty much already mapped out and I only started a few hours ago!

As for my room, this is where I left off.

I noclipped infront of the middle of the mirror and faced into my room and than took four screenshots and used them to make an animated texture. So the fan actually moves in my mirror. I made this texture before adding many things as you can tell so when im completely done i'll have to make it again.

You could do that one old trick. Assuming those doors aren't being used for anything, you can copy your room, spin it around 180 degrees, and put it right up against the mirror space on the other side.

You would have to reverse the direction of the fan, and

you would also have to put a light outside of the window on the other side too, or the light through the window wont come across.

Its mildly annoying but its a 'perfect' mirror.

It would be a perfect mirror but really not worth it being that the map is soo huge. If I did that I wouldn't have memory to finish the map. And the way I did it actually looks better than I thought it would.

I opened hammer the other night and messed around with various crap to formulate some sort of crowbar arena. Like pads that launch people in the air, conveyors, moving parts and obstacles, traps, etc. I might continue to run with this idea.

I was thinking of an idea where every so often, the weapon would change and re-equip all players, wouldn't be hard. Might have good and bad game-play.

I'm really trying to stay away from teamplay maps since they are too difficult to run on the server without special attention.

Its a giant donut that you can surf with boosts. My intention was to make gameplay where you never stopped moving really fast. I'll work on it eventually. Of course i'd add a lot to it like bounces and other surf paths and terrain with caves to surf through and everything.

Heres lost_tech_2 im working on. Don't laugh, all i've done is placed everything to know where it goes.

I sure like to jump around. Dropped lost tech 2 for now but im working hard core on my rats map. With progress like this it should be done within a few weeks. I may post a few more wips. It seems like it will be a really fun map for the server..

i agree with GrimReafer with a twist: in the mirror room, just make it a box. with a snapshot of your room from the opposite direction textured on the back wall. However, include the working fan in the mirror room too, so it will obviously look like you're seeing the actual fan's reflection. This way, you have a reflection room, at a very low wpoly cost..(it might work?)

Either way your idea to use the animated texture is verrry cool, and the room looks spectacular! Inspiring actually, great work!

That's looking great, but I think you should increase a little the transparency of the glass table, and also rotate the texture at 45 degrees. It's looking too unnatural.

Something I did a few months ago. I plan on finishing it and making it a deathmatch map for the server!

The only thing that looks of place in your rats map is that goddamn ugly glass texture for the desk, which is immediately recognizable as the "shitty HL glass texture" at 100 paces. Everything else looks rl quality, and shockingly good imo.

Your 3D Bowser's Castle looks ungodly good, especially the second one. (i just came a little i think)

There are a lot of good mappers here, but i think you just nudged up to first place in my book in overall level design here at. (Definitely my favorite mapper here at this time) Where do we sign up for your fan club? It's very heartening to see such talented work still getting crushed out on the goldsource engine. bravo!

Thanks dude wow really. Haha just trying to catch up with other great mappers in my past like Hondo of scientist hunt, kasperg, k7, captainp etc. I believe your just as good as me yourself but you just don't make that many maps. Yea the glass texture for the desk looks like sheeot, I shoulda fixed it, its just that my desk is fogged glass and not very transparent so it was kinda hard to reproduce and I just got lazy in the end. Well im trying to keep up by shooting out another map right after my last one. snow_henge will be hitting the vault in not time. It includes a little bit of surfing here and there.

Really though thanks a lot, your the kinda person that keeps me mapping! As for the game I wanted to start im still really siked about it but just not too sure where to begin. We should just keep it simple and make it with gold source. We just need a coder. Hmm, maybe daubster...

Well two entire days! I'm sick so all i've been doing is mapping. Theres even more done already but it isn't shown in pics. Goal was to make map with a little surfing but im probably going to add a lot.

The floating ice is pendulums but ill try pushables, that may be a good idea. You also may not notice but the waterfalls and lower pond and pond in the structure is frozen over.

The lone floating piece of ice is a func_rotating and its shadow is the same shape textured black fun_rotating with texture mode set to 100. It looks really good.

Still doesn't touch phendrana drifts from metroid prime. Im working on a temple in the map but should have gone more futuristic like they did rather than ancient. I didn't even think to check it out for inspiration :zonked:

I'm thinking of making a 3 point CP version of Sancefar but only if it would be good for the gameplay of the map.

Also, I found I still have the modular prefabs for 6D, in which I could use to make a map from scratch with really nice graphics in about a few hours, possibly CP as well. I'm excited for the auto-gametype thing for the server, can't you tell :D

Thanks, and no you don't lol. Actually I think I got sick the second day from mapping all day the first day. Rimrook that would be really cool if you made a smaller version/ somewhat lookalike of poison garden and made it a catch point! Beer fort was fun but not very pretty to look at.

As for my next map after snow henge i'm prolly going to make a new version of stalkyard. Its size is perfect for the server when only a few people are in it.

So I tried to use a game_player_equip but couldn't get it to work though I only tried for a minute. Any help? I know you know how to use them Rim...

think of it as a multimanager.. but instead of names of entities in the advanced section (whatever its called... the data input strings) place actual NAMES of entities..

where as the number following the weapon_entity would be how many that player picked up, and the number following the ammo_entity would be literally how much ammo that player started with..

so in example..
I want the player to spawn with an ar rifle.. about half full of ammo.. and 4 ar grenades..

the sequence is:
game_player_equipt > properties > smartedit

then in the data input.. add:
inputs represented as..
key // value

weapon_9mmAR // 1
ammo_9mmbox // 150
ammo_9mmAR // 4


*ALSO, if you use normal hammer editor 'check for problems' it will explain to you that 'game_player_equipt' has unused values.. just ignore that as to clicking either 'fix' button will result in erasing all the smartedit input and leaving your game_player_equipt completely blank except for a name and target* (aka, the unused values it thinks its refering too is all the custom values you added to the game_equipt)

OKAY.. now for the real reason I posted here..

The TP_Beerfort map, when changed with a vote map.. broke the server into thinking it was set for teamplay.. and was like that through the entire next map..

ok.. at least it changes back to deathmatch when you let the time run out and it change maps normally

Yea last time I "changed" it to tp_beerfort it didn't place us on teams. There were 3 people playing.

You could put a message that is displayed every tenth minute or so in your map saying that sv_airaccelerate should be set to 999. Soup Miner can create a config which automatically sets sv_airaccelerate to 999 when your map loads.
