It would be impossible to make a trailer from the footage - it'd ruin it.

You'd have to watch it to understand.

Footage from the film.

saw Paranormal Activity.

I'll be totally honest, I don't get scared at films. I never have.

This had moments where I was like ohshitohshitohshit.
Very little of the horror is shown on screen; it's very psychological and MUCH scarier for it.
A fine movie, I wish more films would adopt the concept of having less shit going on on-screen. Everyone's scared of different things so if you make a movie in which the horror takes place basically in the viewer's imagination, you get a more personalized experience.

I finally saw Wall-E on the weekend, and it was rather good. Although the message of the film seemed to be very serious for a children's film. Although the film probably wasn't meant for just children.

I also saw Sleepers on the weekend. It was also good, although definitely not a film for children.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Another animu chick flick. In my defense, I didn't know it was going to be a chick flick when I started watching, and it only became apparent halfway through.
Still pretty good, and very witty for the most part. Surprise twist at the end was really fucking weird but executed fairly well. And the animation was outstanding.

My wife and I just watched "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly".

It's about a person whose spirit triumphed above overwhelming physical adversity.

This film has affected me deeply, and I stayed up at night thinking about it.

It can give you a different perspective on life.

Armored (2009)

Don't see this movie. It's really a wonder how movies this bad can ever be made and make it to the big screen. It's also a wonder how some decent actors signed on to this.. i guess they just needed the money.

DON'T waste your money on this tube of shit..

(

Outlander (2008)
Not horrible, but i only watched the first 20 minutes. Viking movies = win.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Cool effects and cinematography. Reminded me of Alice in wonderland in spanish.. = )

Saw "M?n som hatar kvinnor" and "Flickan som lekte med elden" a few days ago. If you haven't guessed it already they are both swedish films. I guess Thriller would be a good way to describe them genre-wise.

Pretty good films actually, I usually don't like swedish films because there's something about hearing them speak in my native language that makes everything sound corny.

But I tried to disregard that and I found myself enjoying both films.

not actually a movie but..

the anime series

"The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya." (2009)

Is pretty cutesy.. about a crazed girl obsessed with being outside the 'norm' of society, and she recruits other ousiders to join her club of random hyjinx..

..all except for a short run during season 2 known online as the 'Endless 8', I've enjoyed the series.

Oh yea, I got plans on watching Avatar any moment now! For a movie that cost $400,000,000.00 to make and market, it better be more than just good.
Posted 14 years ago2009-12-21 14:24:54 UTC Post #276829
It cost 400 mil? Wow.. I can't help thinking that those 400 million could've been spent elsewhere, with the recession and all.

Better be a damn good movie! :P

Avatar (2009)

I wanted very much to like this movie, but was highly disappointed. I thought the idea for the script was fine but poorly implemented. The movie starts out very slow and takes a long time (hours) to get to anything even remotely interesting. The main character's performance seems very weak and forced to me, even tho i thought he was great in Terminator Salvation.

I love James Cameron films, but i think he went a little off the deep end on this one. I dunno, i'm going to see it again and see if i like it better a second time..

Saw Avatar yesterday. Definitely worth a watch, even though the 3D didn't really add much (plus the glasses made my nose hurt). The script felt quite standard and similar to some other movie in particular, and it was quite predictable at times, but yeah, it's watchable for the stunning visuals on their own.

Did anyone else feel like it was shot in Zangarmarsh? Anyway, it's quite a fantastic world Cameron's created, and I must say I'm pretty interested in the sequel(s?).

Avatar in 3D.

mind = blown.

Don't expect an intellectual plot; just pure imagination gone wild and sheer entertainment from start to finish, coupled with unbelievably good visuals.

Michael Bay should watch Avatar and resign from film making.

I too saw Avatar yesterday, went to the cinema :D. And it was 3D. Can I touch the leaves ? :o
It was gorgeous, whoever participated at inventing those creatures and plants have a lot of imagination. And for me, the film kinda has a hidden message about what's happening now on earth.

"Hidden" message? It was about as obvious and in your face as movie moralizing gets.
Posted 14 years ago2009-12-23 18:38:50 UTC Post #276882
I think a lot of those creatures could probably be made in spore.

Yep, the plot is quite predictible. Still, I loved the amazing visuals and... well, just the movie in general. It has a very nice blend of action, sci-fi and fantasy.
Greenie message was a little annoying, but enjoying it as part of the movie rather than a message to the viewers dampens the blow.

In conclusion: I'd definitely pay to watch it again.

Seen Avatar in Imax-3D. Loved it. Its not slow at all, you guys are just trigger-happy.

Everything is fine by my book. Good believable story, no loose ends leave you hanging, great visuals, sound, acting gets better after the first 20 minutes (notice that a lot in movies) and overall good message.

I rate this movie 4.8/5 stars.

Oh sorry Striker, i misread.

by the way,
acting gets better after the first 20 minutes (notice that a lot in movies)
I think it's more about getting "into" the characters, rather than the acting actually getting better. I can think of maybe 2 movies ever that are filmed in the order of the script.

Well, one thing is for sure.....James Cameron raised the production bar not by mere centimeters, but by whole kilometers with Avatar! There's just no going back now with the quality level of CGI that was being used prior to Avatar. Now with this new generation of "special effects awesomeness" out in the open, it should be interesting to see how the other big-wig Hollywood hotshots like Spielberg, Lucas, Bay, Abrams and a few others will meet the challenge that Cameron put out. Hey Pixar and DreamWorks, are you listening?
Posted 14 years ago2009-12-23 22:54:06 UTC Post #276896
Michael Bay should watch Avatar and resign from film making.
I was thinking the exact same thing.

Even those who criticize Avatar for having a predictable story - at least it had a story. Bay's films are nothing but action and special effects with a few awkward love scenes thrown in and no real story whatsoever.
Posted 14 years ago2009-12-23 23:03:27 UTC Post #276897
Yeah I stand corrected on the acting in the first 20 minutes thing, turns out they mostly shoot films in reverse. That's why the beginnings are generally better, but the endings suffers. I dreadfully think it should be the other way around for the sake of the movie's integrity as it plays on.

Posted 14 years ago2009-12-24 05:16:56 UTC Post #276901
it's not in any specific order like than, Rimrook.
They shoot scenes that are convenient to shoot. They'll do a location shoot - film all the scenes there, change location, film all the scenes there etc etc.
While 90% of Avatar will have been the one green screen studio, they will have shot all the scenes with particular actors and rigs involved.

Movies have a script and then a shooting script.
