So i have a couple of video's in wmv format, but i can play none of them. Windows Media Player says a specific audiocodec is missing, VLC says there's no usable decodermodule and it says it does'nt support "undf" audio. Whatever that is.
Then finally i tried Windows Media Player Classic, and this one provides a little more information. This is what it said:

Then it plays the video just fine, but without any audio.
So it looks like i need the RealAudio codec (SIPR?). But i don't feel like downloading and installing that shitty Real player or RealOne player or whatever it's called, just for this file. I want it to be playable in either VLC, WMP or WMPC).

So i downloaded ffdshow, a codec pack. No dice. Then i downloaded K-Lite codec pack. Again, no dice. What the fuck? I also tried Real Alternative. Guess what? Nothing.

So im stuck now. Is there anyone who can help me getting this videofile to work?

WMV is evil. I have come across several codec problems in the past. Have you tried http://media-convert.com or http://www.mediaconverter.org ? Those might help...

I have never heard of Windows Media Player Classic, are you sure you don't mean Media Player Classic?

I got the Full version of K-Lite.

And online converters don't seem to accept the file.

Anyway, i was just reading about the K-Lite codec pack on Wikipedia, and according to the table on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-Lite_Codec_Pack, RealMedia is not included in the full version, but is included in the mega version. So im installing that, hopefully it'll install the RealAudio codec that i need.

Edit: it still doesn't work.

In that case, uninstall the K-Lite codec pack. Now, install the following updated Media Player Codec Pack, version 3.9.2.:

Once you do this, your windows media player should play just about every known video and audio format out there.

Also, there is this other stand alone media player that I also use, it practically plays 100% of all known formats, it has all the codec's it needs built in, it's free and it' called "SMPlayer". This is the player that I use to play MKV files or other movies with subtitles not hard coded in:

Don't do with Tito said. Install the CCCP if you're going to install any codec pack. Better than K-lite, probably won't fix your problem though. And VLC is the one and only media player if you want one with codecs built in.

RealPlayer is shittier than hell. The tracks skip every time. Even when it's fully loaded!

So, do what everyone else has said, get the codec and it should work fine.

Ah, SMplayer seems to play the file WITH AUDIO! Now i don't know if that's because of the embedded codecs, or due to installing that media player codec pack (i already had it downloaded and installed before i noticed PB post not to install it).

Good for you, Mighty Atom. SMPlayer does have it's own codecs, probably even more than the Media Player Codec Pack have. If you remove the Media Player Codec Pack, it won't affect SMPlayer, but it will affect Windows Media Player. You will be better off just leaving both intact, this way you will have two different great media players to choose from whenever you need to, why limit yourself to just one when you can have two, right?

@Soup Miner: I went to the inmatrix site to check out Zoom Player, and I must say, it looks pretty damn impressive. But the thing is, there seems to be 3 versions of it. Is any one of those versions freeware?

K-Lite codec pack, Media Player Classic, Media Player Codec Pack, SMPlayer, CCCP and VLC all have one thing in common: They are all the SAME SHIT! They all do THE SAME SHIT! Sure, they got different names and come from different places, but in the end, they all have the same function that meet the same ends.

Once again....."Inferior solution"?......Do you see now how dumb that sound now? None of the above solutions are either inferior or superior, they all accomplish the same thing equally, more or less. Just because somebody says that something "is the one and only media player" does not make it so, it's just an opinion, that's all.

Also, saying that everybody else "fail at life" is not a good idea either.

A free version comes with CCCP.
I'm not sure which version that is, because I didn't actually download Zoom from their own website.

Edit: Pro is the free version, but the second I went to check, I started getting "This is the trial version" messages on startup that were never there before.

Okay, I will check out the Pro version then. I just can't see myself paying for some media player while having so many good freeware ones out there.

penguinboy stated what the best codecs were and what the media player was. given that these are the best, any other codecs or media players suggested are inferior.

pull your head out of your ass. just because it fixes a problem, doesn't mean it's the best solution.
