yeah me too..
its seen in alot of places. (renderer target illusionary with fade)

Yeah... You do the brush and texture it with Fadex until it looks good. Then you make it Func_illusionary and turn its render mode to "Solid" (I think) with a value of 255.

I'd say Addative, ~100 works best ;)
Solid, 255'd do nada :)

No no use an env_beam, which remindes me-- I'll post an example map tomorrow showing a great beam effect using the env_beam

Umm could u repeat how to do that sunbeam thing again, i got mixed up in all the talkin
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-21 12:07:57 UTC Post #28060
Well, it will be in the example maps tomorrow- you gotto see it to believe it, its better to use for headlites, but it works good for sun beams... but the sun beam I create starts out strong (where the light enters the room) and then fades out as it gets closer to the ground
but it looks good. so you don't actually see the sunbeam hitting the floor
but I'm sure you can easily fix it.

i dont think you helped at all unbreakable. I couldn't even make out what you were on about.

Lol unbreakable, i wanna see it.

An easy sunbeam is a brush with a FADE texture, which will act as the beam itself.
Have a env_render target the beam(which is made func_illusionary) with the properties Rendermode Additive and renderamt 255.
Then ahve a trigger_auto target the env_render and, there you go.

Why target the func_illusionary?
Strip the trigger and env_render out of your example, adjust the render properties of the func_illusionary and you have the same thing...
You might also want to tidy up the texture alignment so those nasty boxes of light don't appear at the bottom of the beam.

Am I missing the point here?

cut of a one unit height form bottom and the texture bottom black :D

Sorry I don't have the Env_beam posted let, I was running late and never had time to copy it to a floppy, or bring my laptop to school.

(I still am unable to connect at home)

but I must say I am having trouble with it, I never thought it would be so hard to make a sunbeam this way. Well it works great with tank or car headlites. anyways- It WILL be posted tomorrow.
