would've liked map a book but secret place is the only decent option there...

edit: oh and skals do you honestly think all judges had played all the games in the Map a Game competition? Seen all the movies in the Map a Movie competition? Seen all the landmarks in Real World Reconstruction? You're supposed to tell a story, prior knowledge should not be necessary. Think about things before you make an idiot of yourself.

Trapt shut up, you're being an ass.

It's obvious that an entry based on a book the judges have read would have a greater chance of winning than an entry based on a book completely unknown to them. The judges would have to read all books if everyone's to have the same chance.
That said, I would enjoy mapping Sherlock Holmes's apartment. Or Scrooge McDuck's money bin.

i fail to see how that is even remotely true. a map is a map. if you're mapping a book, you should tell the story well enough yourself so the judges don't have to read the book. also why would the judges give preference to a book they've read? judges are supposed to be impartial.

how about we pause for a second and think before we make stupid comments.

judges are supposed to be impartial.
But rarely are. And how are you supposed to tell if a map is true to the book which it's based on, if you haven't even read the book? A map based on a book the judge hasn't read can be filled with lots of details and references to different chapters, characters and events without the judge even noticing, while another map based on a map the judge has read contains a few references and details, and gets a higher score because of them.
how about we pause for a second and think before we make stupid comments.
I suggest you do.

judges are supposed to be impartial.
But rarely are.
I resent that :o

As far as map a book goes (which we aren't doing), if we were to choose it a simple wiki-spree could get us judges in the mindset. The quality of the mapping accounts for more than the loyalty to the book I would think.

maybe compo 29 then? Book mapping?
Or map half life is the resonance cascade never happened.
You did the experiment.. but you just got boring old data and nothing really interesting happened.
but something interesting could have happened?
Why am i still submitting ideas lmao

You guys are getting map a book wrong. Should it be done, everyone should map based on the same book to be on fair grounds for everyone.

That doesn't mean I have changed my mind, I'd still rather map something secret.

With the way we all like the 3 themes being voted for, we could always do the losing themes in the next 2 compos. Unless you want to start fresh, but if we vote again, they could be nominated again anyway. Just saying.

Lets not think ahead just yet. It's going to take about a year to judge this one and another year to make a new one.

i don't think it really matters what is chosen tbh... there is so much chatter in this thread, i'm guessing competitions 28 is bound to have a very healthy turnout.

)

for the record i vote map-a-dream.

but hey, what do i know? i've only entered, won and judged more competitions than either of you have even been around for.

...I AM!

On another note, just remembered a good joke about a winner!

One day long ago. There was a king who gathered all the people of the land. He said if anyone could swim across the lake (with crocodiles) would have their choice of : a castle, money, or His daughters hand in marriage.

One man jumped up and yelled "I can do it!" He tried and failed.

Another man said "I can do better than that." So he jumped in and didn`t make it either.

Next the crowd heard a splash. A man swam all the way across the lake. The king asked him "Which one would you like? A castle, money, or my daughters` hand in marriage."
The man replied "I want the sorry son-of-a-bitch that pushed me in!"

Oh and another thing, read these;

Upon further thought map a book would be really cool too, i guess trapt converted me. it would be very interesting just to see the type of books people would choose to map.. =)

i have TONS of ideas also for map-a-dream, all of which involve a TON of entity work, but we'll see. i haven't decided if i'll go source or goldsource yet either, but i'm leaning toward source...

You can start if you want. Its more or less an 'anything' compo.

Actually your means something you own, or in your possession, you're means you ARE, which is the correct term in this case.

Day-dreaming, which is technically just straight-up thinking... has the word dream in it. Just add a white fadey tunnel-vision effect and tada, it's a dream. =P
