The recommended settings it chose were one lower than previously, but performance is literally about 6-7x better, taking in to consideration that all my graphics are bumped back UP since I had them lowered to cope... so amazing now.

Second playthrough, Hardcore.

My latest issue? Assassinating the president... I'm set up, but I can't get close without the NCR raping me...
Lol I had a mission given to me by the NCR to protect the president and I had to kill one Caesars legion sniper dressed up as an NCR guy xD. Nice to see how these quests go together.

As for my progress so far? Well I got the remnants armour set and Oh, Baby!, and story wise I killed Mr house because the NCR asked me to, defended the NCR president but the fucking quest bugged out and all of them are still running in panic and I get no progress 10 hours after still, and I killed caesar myself just for fun without even a quest lol. I also killed great khan leader while he was sleeping but for their own quest (lol) and they still like me. I'm mostly good karma, and oh yeah, I don't really like NCR but I killed house cause he told me to kill the brotherhood... fuck that! :D

The oddest thing right now however is how I told everyone to act. I told the khans to defend the NCR Dam, I told the brotherhood of steel to defend the NCR dam (ncr agreed to both) and I told the Enclave to defend the dam... It's the worst combination you can get haha all of them hate each other. But also I teamed up with Yes Man! so now he told me to blow the dam up myself, haha! I duno what to do now!

Yeah for my assassination of the president, I simply stealthboy'd and then ran outta there, using about 10 stimpacks.

That's going to be one hell of a mission, and will result in 3 very powerful, very pissed off factions looking for you. :P

Man I love this game.

Second playthrough. Went straight to Vegas, stealth-boying past the death claws that would have surely been my demise. Killed Benny, killed Dr. Mr. House, and plotting with Yes Man on how to proceed. I might blow up the Brotherhood of Steel again... or maybe I won't. We'll see. Also, Hardcore hasn't really presented much extra challenge. And by turning in a couple snow globes, both VERY easy to find, and helping Mr. House a little from the get-go, I'm over 8,000 caps and under level 10.

I just finished new vegas. The ending was epic. Especially the part where the robot tries to tell you something xD. At the end I killed caesars legion commander and started talking to NCR commander, at which point said he found me very impressing, I replied with something like "have you ever seen an army of securatrons?" and the door bursted open behind him and like 100 securatrons come out of nowhere. that was pretty epic :D.

Started playing it this week. It's quite fun. I do find it quite annoying that you can't run any faster than you do. It takes forever to get to new places

You can run faster, Agility affects your running speed, and you can increase it with perk. Although I guess it's nowhere near as handy as the oblivion system.

Also Medium and Heavy armor slow you down if you wear them, and if you're using a 2-handed weapon, having it holstered will also help you run faster. One-handed weapons won't affect run speed though.
Posted 14 years ago2010-11-05 17:24:53 UTC Post #286812
well there are two perks for my knowing that make you faster. First one is free perk at the start of game, +1 agility but more limb damage, and the second one I know is intense training, put a point of it for agility and you will run faster. You don't have to get intense training since there are many more appealing perks, but if you come to a level where you don't have any appealing perks at the moment, get that.

You have to be careful with your stats when making your character, I just started my second playthrough and made a more appealing stat combo. I put 5 in everything, and spent the 5 extra points to raise strength by 2 (more space, better melee damage, I'm making a melee char) and 2 points in agility (for a perk later on and faster movement + better sneak) and 1 in charisma, I find speech challenges useful. In my last play through I put an additional point in luck but I found out this was bad since you can get a perk equivalent to 5 point of luck for your crits but it doesn't go over 10. Perception helps you see in the dark hence it is also useful for me and endurance helps over all. Intellect increases the skill points per level you get, to a max of 20, that is if you also get the perk that increases them per level.

You can get 20 per level? How? I have a character with 10 intel AND the perk, and I only get 17.
Posted 14 years ago2010-11-05 18:47:29 UTC Post #286815
Skals I think that perk only gives you a better chance at crits, you don't get five points worth of luck in other luck related rolls.

Fail, I had 7 intel and perk on previous char and got 17. Your char must be broken.

I went to the north gate where The Kings hang out, robbed the plasma weapon store, killed the king of The Kings and shot my way through all of the security into New Vegas. Awesome. And the security inside New Vegas doesn't seem to mind. Got a bad set of Karma tho, but I haven't realized what it does yet

Karma does shit in this game. Most everything is based on faction reputation and skills.

Also, I invented a simple little idea for if/when you finally get bored of NV.

Start a new character on the hardest difficulty, hardcore mode on, and simply try to survive. The catch is, no reloads. The only saving you can do is for insurance against crashes, freezes, lockups, or otherwise, or if you're simply done for the moment and wish to continue at a later time. If you die, you die. If you find yourself in a sticky situation, you can't reload. Only exception being a game-killing glitch.

I call it Super Hardcore mode. B) It's kind of like the Iron Skull handicap in Halo, or the mutation in L4D2.

So far, every time I've gone through, I've always killed House. I figure though, if you're going to do it, do it while he still likes you. If you blow up his stuff, or anger him before hand, you have to deal with those pesky bots before trying to take him out. Which is much more of a hassle if you let him upgrade them...

Why did you do that? The kings leader is a very nice guy and gives you the best companion in the game - Rex, the robotic dog of pure awesome. He makes me lol everytime I talk to him. :(

Edit: My second character is an asian ninja with a mohawk. I'm putting points in sneak, melee and unarmed :). I'll try to get the chinese stealth suit from the ncr dam when I get the chance.

Because they were being rude! I've got two companions already, A robot which I got when I was at Primm, and some girl in a hood, who punches peoples heads off with her iron glove, who I met somewhere outside New Vegas. She's awesome!

Found this annoying bug which you guys probably have noticed as well. I was in the Lucky 38 Casino in New Vegas, and my companions were told to wait outside. When I was done, I went outside, forgot to tell them to follow me, and went on to the next area. When I realized that I had forgotten to tell my companions to follow me I went back to the previous area where they had stood, and they were now gone. So I loaded a previous game, and they had disappeared from that save aswell. I had to go back quite a bit to get my companions back. Annoying!

That's annoying, I always forget my companions when I'm there. To solve this: If you still have their perk they're waiting in the same area, but if you don't, they go back to the very place they met you.

Ah I love that brotherhood companion. She punches the shit out of anything which makes a great finisher when my VATS fail to kill my enemies.

Vault...34 is it? The one with the armory was a nightmare for me. I got lost a lot and was running out of radaway plus the ghouls were really strong for my character. Still the All American and my very first sniper was worth the risk since I'm roleplaying as a Chinese sniper.

Oh a bug I came across was using the NCR radio to send for supplies and couldn't find it. Eventually I used noclip and found it deep under the terrain. No more achievements for me, not that I care.

Oh and this is pretty awesome. I must admit I use my chatting more than my fists. (and lazers)

You know what I reeeealy love about New Vegas? When it crashes, and screws over my computer for half an hour because it fails to boot up properly for that long.
It's a great game, but it crashes harder and more often than Fallout 3 did. And most of the crashes are similar to the "Tranqulity Lane crash" I always seem to get that puts the computer into a state that stops it from responding to even the power and reset buttons.

I seem to find that the most stability issues come when you're using Veronica as a companion. She's an awesome character, once you patch her so she levels up with you, but my second play through, where I used her exclusively, was a nightmare as far as crashes go.
But that doesn't explain why I crashed in Freeside last night.

I agree. I experienced this simply by leaving my 360 controller plugged in during Fallout 3. Upon playing, the keyboard and moused were locked, so I picked up the controller and everything had been changed to reflect controller buttons. So I gave it a try... AWFUL. I then proceed to unplug the controller so I could play as normal.

With this in mind, the way they made these games is almost genius. All versions are so completely similar, they probably had to do very little tweaking to "port" it to a different system, rather than make 3 separate versions of the games.
Posted 14 years ago2010-11-08 17:37:31 UTC Post #286909
I couldn't help myself. From the start one of my aims was to get a certain armour. I finally got it but made some enemies but they'll love me soon enough once I do their work.

Anyway I also had to do the quest for NCR where I had to stop the kings from being violent. I tried to use my speech tactics but the King wouldn't have it so assassinate I did only it caused the entire clan to shoot me as expected. So I quickly run out and head back to the NCR where I find out my only chat line is "The King..sorta...got killed." and an angry NCR not amused. I didn't kill him, turns our Rex did. lul.

So I use this quest as the perfect excuse to kill all the people over at the Silver something...the place with all the fancy weapons. Now I'm filled with ammo, got my armour and everything is finally repaired to their maximum output.

And here I am :D All beefed up, ready for the main quest in the near future.

So after writing that I played a load more and I was quite disappointed by the fact I was able to just waltz in and kill Caesar with no effort. Also with Mr House dead I can't understand how there's going to be a battle now.

Anyway I know I'm close to the end so I'm going to postpone it and do more side quests.

But overall it was quite fun, the main quest wasn't as good as Fallout 3's but the sidequests were much better and felt like mini-stories on their own.

House isn't part of the battle. It's between the NCR and the Legion, it's just a matter of whether other parties join in. If Caesar is dead ever at all, whether or not you're sided with the Legion, he is succeeded by another (I forget his name) and if the Legion wins the battle and Caesar is dead at the same time (therefore implying you sided with the Legion) than the Legate becomes Caesar.
