Since yesterday, I can't connect to steam anymore.

I receive no error other than this "Could not connect to Steam network" one.
What can be the problem ?

Delete clientregistry.blob in your Steam folder.

Ok, I deleted that and after starting steam again it "updated", then again: could not connect to steam network.

I already checked that page and it seems there's nothing I can really do, and nothing seems wrong with my pc either ( disabled firewall and antivirus to see if that was the problem).

Also, I tried to verify my ports on http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/, but no port appears to be working(that's what the site says, and by no port I mean not even "80" but that's not true, I'm on a webpage just now!).

What pisses me off is that 2 days ago it was working just fine, and yesterday it stopped. Without modifying anything in the system.

Do you have a router? Did you open UDP port 4380?

I don't think that would even make a difference but who knows.

Worse comes to worse, back up your steam game files and reinstall.

I don't have a router. I have a broadband connection of 20 mbps, through a modem.

I don't think steam has anything, but what makes me curious is: why all of a sudden?

Now I forwarded all the required steam ports in my modem, and checking again 4380: it now works.
But steam still doesn't want to connect! Oh boy, so many computer-science related books where you read "a pc will do only what you tell him to do". Such a big lie...

There is a good chance of that. Backup them up before you do. Or just try reinstalling Steam over the top of the existing installation, it shouldn't wipe out your games.

Move the "steamapps" folder to somewhere outside of the steam directory, then uninstall steam. Install it again, and put the steamapps folder back afterwards (do this while steam is not running).

The steamapps folder has all your content in it, so be sure to be very careful with it. When you uninstall steam, it deletes all folders in the steam directory, including the all-important steamapps. So, move it outside the steam directory before you uninstall.

This is getting even more frustrating. I reinstalled steam(backed up my steamapps) and it still doesn't connect!
I don't understand what's happening anymore. Everything is working fine besides steam, and the ports are opened.

Is your ISP (or network administrator, depending on how/where you use the internet) blocking Steam?

Did you try contacting Steam support to see if they have any insight on the issue?

It seems I'll have to contact Steam support or something. I've just run through every troubleshooting issue from that page(in DETAIL, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING) and steam still won't connect. What makes me FURIOUS is that it started doing this suddenly.

It's been a week now since my steam stopped connecting to the network.

Have you tried switching your Steam region? It's worth a try. Maybe, if you're really lucky, there's just some problems with the Romanian Steam servers.

I have a friend with who I play gmod or tf2 and he's from Romania too, but he doesn't have problems. How can I change the region?

You'd have to start in offline mode, then go into settings->downloads & cloud.

And umm... how do I do that if I can't enter steam?

Try this:

Disconnect your network cable and start Steam. It should prompt you for offline mode. While in offline mode, change the download region, plug your network cable back in, Restart Steam and see what it does now.

I did this and it still tells me steam can't connect to the network. That's weird.

That's Steam.

It's been 6 days and I still haven't got a response. How much do they take to answer? This is really frustrating, I can't access my fucking games.

install the virtual machine with clean Windows instalation, install Steam and try to connect if that works u can exclude that your provider has blocked Steam

i think that the problem could be inside registry, a key value is somehow connected with steam files and it is fucked up - clean up the registry

Do you have another computer nearby? If it has Steam on it, see if you can connect to the Steam network on that one. If it does, then the connection is fine and the problem narrows down to your main computer.

Hmm, I went at a friend upstairs who has the same ISP and asked him if I could install Steam to check for the connection. It seems I can connect.
It's probably my computer's fault, but what?

What do you mean "clean up" ? Like using a program like ASC or CCleaner?
