The tournament date isn't fully set yet, but we're leaning towards 8pm GMT next Saturday (16th of April). Let us know if this suits you. We can move it if there's many of you who couldn't make it.
My bad, I was looking around the original post
Sounds good to me, that'll be 4PM on my end.

I'd try to enter but the server is too laggy for me to play any good.

keep in mind that there are a lot of maps.
It's likely to keep going for several hours.
You don't have to be there from the start, and you don't have to be there at the end - your kills will still count.
I was thinking we could choose the winner in the same way my old work (LAN gaming centre) used to do it, which was a ticket-based system.
Every kill gives you a ticket in what is essentially a raffle. The more tickets you have - the more likely you'll win - but it's not a guarantee.

That'd ensure that if someone was crazy enough to stay for the entire tournament, they wouldn't necessarily win just by having most kills through being there the longest.

Also note that there will be 2 runner up prizes.

I searched for de_mon on twhl, it didn't give me any results >.>

And huntey, what you're saying is, the more you play on the server the more likely you will win? So potatis has won already? Whats the point of that, I taught the best one like the one with best K/D ration will win, not the dude that's been on the bloody server every single day.

What? No. I'm saying the ticket method avoids that scenario.

Also, the tournament is only one day. The server is only live at the moment for fun games and testing.

Did you search for it in tutorials or something?

I also think you guys should make available on the server the oldest map from TWHL, which is a counterstrike map:
Cs_Canbunk by Marwood(7th June, 2003 )

[EDIT] Uhm, okay... seems like the download link is dead.

Then consider adding the 2nd oldest cs map from TWHL, which is De_Priory by Manhog(24th June, 2003 )

I guess I might as well throw my old map into the mix. It was my first released and fully compiled map, which means its very blocky, and very, very large. I wish I had the rmf to fix all the problems that I was having back then. The round timer should definitely be set to something like 5 or 6 minutes.

I'm Nefarious, by the way.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I remind you that the tournament begins tonight at 8pm UK time. Here's a handy steam event to help you work out what time that is in your time-zone.

The tournament will keep going until all submitted maps have been played. That's potentially a very long time, but that's a good thing because it means people from different time zones will still get a chance to play.

As I've said before - you don't have to be there at the start and you don't have to be there at the end. Just log on for a few maps at some point during the tournament and rack up some kills. The more you play, the more likely you are to get kills, but it's not a requirement to play for the entire duration.

The tournament end will be signalled with a post here and the server returning to an official cs map at which point kills will cease to be recorded. We estimate this to be around 2am British time, but it could be drastically longer or shorter depending on how long rounds last.

Make sure you have all the maps before you join. A .zip with all of them can be found here:
http://hunter.weebitmagic.com/files/maps/twhl_retro_tournament_maps_v1.zip

Playing order will be randomized, but here's a full list:

de_dragos
de_space
aim_oldzone
aim_shotgun
cs_aztec2
cs_control
cs_urbanbend
de_dome
de_splinter_clan
de_watertower
fy_rook
gyradell

The map will get a strikethrough when it has been played.

It's 20:00 GMT. Romania is in the +2 GMT timezone, so it'll start at 22:00 PM for you, Striker.

PS: If there is a certain dirty secret, huntey.. you might wanna share it here, because it wasn't possible to download the .wad from the server.

It lets you record server demos (viewing them works like spectating a server - you can toggle between players, etc.)

Gonna try & get all of the games recorded for future laughs.

Also worth noting is that daubster had 103 tickets, but chose not to be included in the prize draw because he adminned for us tonight. Nice of him :)

Also, there were a total of 987 kills, excluding myself and daubeh's.

I see. So it takes one hour to figure out that Freshy is on the first place and he wins?

Also, how come I am on the 2nd place? I thought I'm on third! Nice!

If you'd read earlier, the ticket system is like a raffle.

This is how it works out:
001 - 195 = Freshy
196 - 349 = Striker
350 - 493 = Mariowned
494 - 635 = Nefarious
636 - 749 = Soup Miner
750 - 846 = Blitz
847 - 906 = Skals
907 - 965 = Potatis
966 - 987 = X-LAyer2

We put a 1-987 in a random number generator, run it 3 times (3 is a nice number) and the winner is the number it spits out.

I'm pretty sure I got slightly over 200, with a few tickets I managed to get on the aim_shotgun and after a crash in ehm.. another map I can't recall the name of anymore. Nonetheless, it was pretty fun and I wish everyone the best in getting a prize. I'll be getting some sleep now. Much needed sleep.
