Yeah I never understood where the combine came from, freeman was owning these aliens and their invasion, and at the same time this citadel was being built and these random robot human things overtook the planet? I didn't get that part. Plus the vortigaunts are still there barely since they were freed, but what about controllers and grunts? It would be nice if the next half-life would clear up the story rather than just be another linear adventure as it is.

Thanks a lot Boomer, this gives me high hopes for the next hl game, as in it most likely that distress signal would have summoned massive amounts of new combine, and perhaps we may even be visiting an alien planet

The combine are like the jocks in high school, then earth is the regular kid that has a normal life, and xen is the weird freak nerd no one likes, now the combine are dicks to everyone, being total bad asses, and always picks on xen, but never notices earth, then one day, earth and xen have a small fight, and earth wins, to an extent, and the combine are like, "FRESH MEAT". And then they start picking on earth.
In other words, The Half-Life story line is one big cluster fuck of awesome. I want Ep 3 for the sole purpose of bashing in more Combine Heads with a fucking crowbar.

Well now that I know the story, I'm excited for Half-Life 3, and In a way I see why they are taking so long.
HL1: Repel Xen Invasion, oblivious to combine
HL2: Combine Invasion, defeat combine forces on earth
HL3: Combine soldiers call for back up, a conflict on a whole new level begins.
Man that has a lot of possibilities. Freeman going to alien original planet to destroy the combine there, or freeman going to the main place where the combine is being operated from on all galaxies and takes it up with their leader or I dunno, massive amount of combine reinforcements flying to earth and freeman has to stop them getting there, or combine deathstar about to blow up earth and freeman has to stop it... why does freeman have to do it all by himself anyway

Race X was created by Gearbox for Opposing Force. It has never been confirmed as canon, nor has it appeared in any official release by Valve software (or Gearbox since Opposing Force for that matter)

They're not. Stalkers are what happens to rebels who have been particularily troublesome. I beleive Madcow was referring to the brainwashing pod model. You can also see a dead soldier without his armor in Nova Prospekt, on one of the security monitors (The one in the map where Breen addresses overwatch, I beleive. You'll have to switch it a couple of times, but you can see a stalker, the dead soldier, and some elite running down a hall)
