Hammer is broken, when I try to do something it won't do that just very weird.
If I try select a brush it don't respond or select another brush for me. But I can open it and open maps in it, thought can't work with it when it's like that.

What I do to fix this? Any easy way?

Is salmon related to tuna?

Those errors sound weird what are your specs?

you tried download latest hammer version? it can help i think
Posted 12 years ago2011-09-24 02:05:58 UTC Post #299334
Sounds alot like the old Radeon graphic card bug. Did you buy a new graphic card?

Are u new to mapping perhaps you just need to reduce the grid settings and zoom in closer in order to proberly select the required brush.

It's hard to give any advice with so less informations.
Perhaps reinstall Hammer and use the latest compilers etc. Maybe that will fix it.
Posted 12 years ago2011-09-24 07:16:07 UTC Post #299341
What I did was when I had the map folder open in hammer I deleted some old .rmf files. Then hammer kinda froze and I force quitted it.
I'm gonna try reinstalling hammer.

reinstalling didn't do anything. Suggestions?
Posted 12 years ago2011-09-24 12:05:43 UTC Post #299346
Only thing I can think of is that by deleting those files, you messed up the 'recently opened files' list?

Try clearing out the list in the registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Valve Hammer Editor\Recent File List

If that doesn't work try deleting the 'Valve Hammer Editor' registry folder entirely (take a backup using the export feature first, of course)

Still same problem. maybe it's something I accidently changed in the editor.
I can select brushes but, say if I have skybox, it will select the skybox instead of the brush I click on. And brushes have these crossover yellow outlines on their faces that weren't there before.
Posted 12 years ago2011-09-24 23:40:56 UTC Post #299363
Go into 'Settings > 3D Views' and turn off 'Reverse selection order'

As for your yellow outlines, can you provide a screenshot?

Try this if you are still on XP. It won't work for Windows 7, unfortunately.

Actually it does, since I have a windows 7 and I installed hammer and I had the same problem and it placed the opengl32 thingy and it worked :o

And I heard that ati had some new update that finally lets you map properly or something? I'm not sure where so don't take my word for granted :)

try my atioglxx.dll, its valuable file because you cant find this version anywhere
User posted image
how to use:
bring this file near hammer
restart the hammer

if this don't work, try another versions of this file

if still don't work
you may have driver problems

check your video card status
follow this instructions:

I did a registry scan with uniblue registrybooster, don't know what good it did, the problem still remained. as far as the hkey_current_user, can't locate it but registrybooster got them as far as I'm concerned.

Here's what the lines look like:

the ones that run across each face. I didn't split the brushes, that is just a hollowed box.
also, moving around with the camera makes them dissappear and/or appear. and this wasn't there before the problem so not 100% sure it's related but that's my guess.

Here is video card info from the dxdiag.txt tell me if I missed something.

that is just a hollowed box.
don't use hollow imo.

What does it look like if you create a cube using the brush tool, or a room the "normal" way? (not using carve or hollow)

Hollow is useful for surrounding your map with a box to prevent leaks, for testing before your map is complete.
Posted 12 years ago2011-10-03 17:18:37 UTC Post #299735
yeah, i suppose it's faster than vming a box. I don't think i ever really tried hollow! (i have tried carve tho, from old tutorials back in the day!)

It has nothing to do with how he's creating the world, it has everything to do with him using a shitty integrated graphics unit. Get a new machine.

Come on guys, I can't be the only fucking person here to be able to spot that from three miles away.

Yeah I'm getting a similar problem with the machine I use at work. I map on my lunch breaks but my 3d selection doesn't work properly. I can never select the proper brush. Ever. It always selects a few pixels left or right of the cursor, and is impossible to predict. I ALSO see my brushes tessellated like in the above pic. Yellow outlines on solid brushes, always in a triangle. It's an intel integrated card. I updated to the 2009 drivers (nothing more current) but the problem persists.

Could it be because I transferred hammer via flash drive?

No, but i can confirm your story: I had the exact same issue when i was using Hammer on a school computer with an integrated graphics card. I had diagonal yellow lines all over my brushes but it did'nt affect mapping at all. I also remember having no issues with selecting brushes. Hammer was working fine except that it had the diagonal lines.

i have amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 5000+
2 GB ram direct x9.0c
and i have integrated graphics card (ati radeon x1200)
and its works perfect, i can select 3d window too
no issue with anything and it run smooth

so i think the problem about drivers or intel graphic card

Where do I locate hkey_current_user ?
Posted 12 years ago2011-10-04 14:14:48 UTC Post #299759
In the reg editor.

Start - run - regedit

Dont touch that if you dont know what youre doing.

This is very strange. Deleting the entire valve hammer editor directory in the hkey and opening hammer again, select new .wad and place a brush inside a hollowed brush, I could actually select that brush. That kinda shows there is something wrong in there, right? So I save the map, close hammer and reopen, load map, place new brush inside hollow box and... brush can't be selected! Hammer is broken again!
Go into the hkey_current_user, valve hammer editor directory is there again.

Have you got a computer with a proper graphics card that you can test this on? Integrated (or whatever this is) graphics usually have terrible OpenGL implementations, which will mean you'll have all sorts of stupid issues trying to use Hammer. It doesn't have to be a good card, just find the cheapest ATI or Nvidia card that works in your PC (20 bucks should get you something, maybe cheaper if you go second hand).

Oh, I've had that. The extra lines being drawn is just some confusion with the radeon card, though it is entirely harmless and just bad. I got accustomed to it eventually and built Beer fort with it like that. I have no idea how to actually fix it though. Try some driver updates, that'd be my best guess.
