Rumour started from this tweet.

Discuss, possibly including links to other news about this. This shall be either a great disappointment or the best Christmas ever.

Also, even if we're 90% sure HL3 won't be announced because Gabe is difficult, it's our job as HL players and a HL community to speculate.

I call bullshit. That shirt could be fake worn by the sad lonely guy who wants more followers on twitter. Give me gameplay footage and a release date and I'll start paying attention.

There's some weird rumour going around that Half-Life 3 is going to be a PS3 exclusive. Obviously this is more than highly unlikely, but there is probably some truth in its fiction, and some fiction in its truth.
Posted 13 years ago2011-12-05 22:36:34 UTC Post #301308
Thats a black and white idea, it's either true or not lol.
Posted 13 years ago2011-12-05 22:56:00 UTC Post #301309
There may be a PS3 exclusive Valve title in the works for PS3, but it is in no way Half-Life 3. But how can I know if my senses are lying?
Posted 13 years ago2011-12-05 23:09:25 UTC Post #301310
Twitter is blocked at work, but I assume you're talking about the HL3 shirt that a Valve employee was wearing at some event. I expect that it's more of a joke shirt that the guy had custom made to get some laughs. I can guarantee that it's not officially linked to HL3 :P

I understand why people are getting so speculative about this shirt, since Valve's marketing is always somewhat unique and sneaky but I think we can be fairly sure that this was just a joke by the employee.

Bullshit.

I also have to laugh at the comments I've been seeing claiming that Valve cannot count to 3.

I don't buy it either. It's most likely bullshit. We're probably just gonna have to wait for the next E3

Don't you know, the custom maps for HL2 we have been playing will be officially designated as HL3 as a collective.

I call "joke" to regain some interest in a game that people have long forgotten. Actually I don't think they'll be doing a new Half Life for a good while until technology improves and they can create the same upstandard that Source did when it first came out.

I'll always remember how HL2 and the Source engine opened my eyes. I can still recall an old friend of mine who phoned me up while I was playing it and asking me what I thought about it and how to get past that blue container airboat puzzle.

That's the only time I've been phoned up to discuss a game...granted we have online alternatives now but still, the impact of HL2 was grand and I expect HL3 to do the same.

Habboi, I don't think it's about technology here. I doubt they're waiting for the technology that they'll grant them the power to simulate puzzles at an atomic level.
They are probably waiting for the FPS gaming market to die out. Every new sequel to MW or Battlefield and other examples seem more and more superficial(not that I've played them, but at least if that's not true, then it is true that the gaming market is saturated with this genre).
Then they'll make a big hit with their game. Or who knows, perhaps they're hinting at a new engine they're developing.

Also, you gotta love Google Trends. Perhaps Valve is waiting for people to start forgetting about HL and come with the sequel as a surprise. Although I could say the trend indicates that interest began dropping not long ago, it's actually kept a "steady"(ignoring the spikes that might indicate other rumors along the years as well) line since 2008.

Notice the last days. I'm waiting for another week until checking the trend again.

Is there some sort of paradigm that I'm unaware of that states that only games that are out, or about to be out, can have shirts about them?

I don't get it
Posted 13 years ago2011-12-06 19:19:16 UTC Post #301342
If a game doesn't exist it has no artwork or working\release name, therefore to create a shirt about it you would have to make a mock-up shirt, atidestroy.

I wonder if it would be possible to crowd-source a game.

It would be hilarious to see a game studio release general concept art, a story (in clear sections), and all of the tools required before making a competition out of it.

They would section out chapters, take entries, pick the best ones, and bridge each of them together. The winning teams would then get royalties for every game sold.

That would be pretty awesome. :P

I hate hoping for this kind of thing, I see stuff like this and while I do know that it doesn't mean much and that I could very easily be disappointed I still find myself thinking that maybe, just maybe it will be revealed.

Either way people saying it will be a PS3 exclusive are in no way correct. Valve has always been a PC game developer they wouldn't just change that and piss a lot of people off.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important?

Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

I'm fired, aren't I?

I can never get how people could possibly have the emotional capacity to get so worked up over a video game.

The government could create a magical cure for cancer and the response to it would still be nil in comparison to some geek living in his basement finding random numbers in a hl2 video and then coming up with some theory about it tying to HL3 in one way or another.

Seriously, just... Jesus christ.

Personally as a person who helped out in the P2 ARG(So I can say this from personal experience), That twitter account Doug_rattman is a person who multiple times implanted false information into the ARG, in an attempt to derail it. So Fuck Him. as for the other things, not sure what to say, they did plan on 3 Episodes for HL2, so I'm not on bored with the idea for an HL3 just yet.

Trollo, People get excited for new games for a variety of reasons, CoD fanboys like there game because it allows them to feel as though there penis is bigger than everyone else, Half Life fans love the universe Valve has created, and enjoy playing through it as it progresses. Gaming is like a hobby, people are usually obsessed with their hobbys.

I understand getting excited, I don't understand getting excited to the point that you would kill anybody who doesn't share your opinion of it, or to the point that it's the absolute only important thing in your life. People are different, not all fans are so irrational but the large majority of extreme elitists I've seen concerns me greatly for the intelligence level of our humanity.

Then again I don't get excited for any new [game or movie etc] releases at all, so I wouldn't understand it either way... I'll just check it out later once the up-the-ass reviewers stop acting as though it's the most amazing thing in the world and enjoy it myself, instead of having others tell me that I [should] enjoy it.

Sorry kiddo, but I've never seen somebody on the internet that would kill sombody for not liking some game or even anybody where a game the most important thing in their lives (discounting addiction and other mental instabilities, I guess). Stop thinking of the most extreme situation possible and then pretending it's common place.

Maybe you don't get excited about anything because you're an emo or something, but regular people get excited about things they like and are looking forward to. It doesn't mean that they're stupid, irrational, or elitist.

Basically, shut up.

That said, the conspiracy theories linked in this thread ARE pretty ridiculous :P
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!
Posted 13 years ago2011-12-15 00:25:42 UTC Post #301587
I never said that people who are excited for things are irrational or stupid, I said people who take their excitement to extremes are irrational, and stupid.

Obviously nobody is going to kill somebody over a video game [Even though it has happened it's generally mentally disabled people], but rather the elitists actions in general being summed up a 'killing' somebody.
I personally did not get how Half-Life 2 was the most awesomest game in the entire world, I said it was a really fun game but I had more fun playing a different game.
Promptly got bog standard "you're an ididot if you really think that shit game is better then hl2", and absolutely no explanations as to what makes the 'shit' game unenjoyabe and hl2 so great.
I never said I disliked the game, never said anything negative about it, I just said it wasn't as fun to me as this other game... Automatically meaning I'm an idiot, because all the cool kids love hl2, and I'm not a cool kid.

Like I said, irrational, elitist idiots. Seen a lot of them [Usually on the steam forums], but only really had a few firsthand experiences.

Basically, shut up.
Think you missed that bit. No-one gives a sh*t what you're trying (and failing) to say. All you do is say something stupid, someone points it out, and you write a damn novel trying to justify it. You do it every time.

On track. Whether or not there's any truth behind any theories or speciulation, I won't really be excited 'til I hear proper official news. Preferrably in the form of a release date other than "when it's done".
