Because the last one needs a bump and not even Penguinboy knows how that TWHL bump request system actually works.

So, yeah, lots of news about this recently. Firstly, here's the confirmed map list for launch.
de_aztec
de_dust
de_dust2
de_inferno
de_nuke
de_train
cs_italy
cs_office
de_shorttrain
de_bank
de_lake
de_safehouse
de_sugarcane
de_stmarc
ar_baggage
ar_shoots
Note the stepping away from the hostage rescue game mode. CS without Assault? :o (Although remember that CSS never had cs_assault either. It was released several years after CSS went live).

The thing that makes me very happy though is the new media which shows the frankly terrible player models we've seen in previous media were either placeholder, or Hidden Path simply listened to the response to it which was "these models are fucking awful".

Most new images are from de_lake, a minimalistic defusion map with only one bomb site. One of the cool things we can take from this? Global shadow mapping. That awesome projected lighting they used in Portal 2 for Wheatley's torch amongst other things? That's now the environment light meaning that all props cast and receive shadows on a pixel level, not a lightmap level. Sexy lighting inbound!

The confirmed weapons list has been updated as well. They are now:
PISTOLS
Tec-9 (Terrorists only)
P2000 (Counter-Terrorists only)
P250
Glock-18
Five-seveN
Akimbo Berettas (“Duelies”)
Desert Eagle

SHOTGUNS / MACHINE GUNS
Nova
XM1014 (auto shotgun)
Sawed-off (Terrorists only)
Mag-7
M249
IMI Negev

SUBMACHINEGUNS

Terrorists
MAC-10
PP-Bizon
P90
UMP-45

Counter-Terrorists
MP7
MP9
P90
UMP-45

RIFLES

Terrorists
Galil AR
AK-47
SSG 08
SG 556
AWP
G3 SG/1

Counter-Terrorists
FAMAS F1
Colt M4A1
SSG 08
AUG A1
AWP
SCAR-20

EQUIPMENT
Kevlar (free/automatic in Casual mode, cost money in Competitive mode)
Zeus x27 (single use, one-hit-kill melee tazer)
HE grenade

The recent media is a huge improvement. Some of the current maps in the beta are hideous, so I'm assuming (or hoping) they're early versions and will eventually meet the standards of that lake map. Global shadow mapping too, I love it.

Now give me a beta key, Valve!

Global shadow mapping sounds great, (And it's about time it was implemented, we should have had it back in L4D1 or sooner) But I'm unsure about the lack of CS_ maps. Rescuing hostages just seems a bit more engaging to me than defusal maps, and it's not like we can't have good pathfinding now. Looks great graphically though, and Valve have yet to disappoint in the gameplay department. (Well, except ricochet, but they know better now.)

Looks hawt. Might have to buy it. I hope they balance the guns out. So many absolutely useless weapons in CS/CSS.

After the 2010 update all of the 'useless weapons' were useful enough. I actually used the fucking UMP once, and didn't immediately die.

Only weapons I use are m4a1, ak, deagle, scout, mp5, awp, m3, sg552 and aug. The defender and famas are sometimes the only affordable rifle. Other than that, "garbage". Oh and the autos are decent but usually restricted as is the awp. And the para is fun for servers with tons of idiots in them.

So that covers just about all of them besides the tmp, uzi, ump, auto shotty and other pistols. I think the auto shotty used to be really effective back in the day, so much that it was often banned like the awp.

I hope i get a beta invite soon, as for the game - valve needs more cash.
Gun models take up half the screen like in L4D2. With the current sounds its impossible to distinguish what you are firing. The buy menu is horribly confusing. Money system is broken. Semi-spammable walls make it so that you can spam half across the map.
Well when the associated hammer comes out i will probably remake the "broken" cs:go maps into simpler ones :D

Looks promising indeed.

Virtually all the modern games have global shadow mapping now. The Orange Box engine had limited shadow mapping with the flashlight activated, but skylight casting shadow is a huge improvement for the Source engine.

When I fist saw it in Crysis and FarCry 2, I was almost moved to tears.

It's getting a standard SDK rather than L4D and Portal 2's "authoring tools" but aside from that nothing is confirmed.

And yes, you can open .vmf files in any Source version of Hammer.

I have 3 extra beta keys, pm me if you want one!

The graphics for cs go are awesome and the weapons are really nice. But the gameplay just wasn't as catchy as cs 1.6 and cz in my opinion. Movement seems a bit funky. And it feels like a console game.

Some of the weapons make the game seem a bit like team fortress in that they are a little cheesy. Like the tazer gun. But the motif cocktail is pretty cool. Besides the fact that you can block off portions of the map and block off your own teamates with it.

The smoke grenade is way cool and works super good with really thick smoke.

I just feel more inclined to play 1.6 still though. But go's graphics are pretty awesome. I would have to argue though that some level of ambience wasn't met with some of the maps even though the graphics and details are so nice.

Don't be silly it was good

As for the game, it feels very restricted, the movement is not the same.
Its hard to notice if you hit anyone.
Maps are very tight (de_inferno especially).
Weapon models need work (galil looks like an m4, m4 doesn't look like an m4).
Decoy and molotov seriously ?

Mass Effect 3 ending was gold compared to this :D

Molotov I'm actually cool with. Splash DOT is not at all a new game mechanic, it's by no means a risky move/bad idea, and I welcome it to the game so long as it doesn't change it. Besides, how imba could it be? How can fire be more more or even anywhere near as theatening as bullets?

Decoy I don't know about. I want to see how it works before I decide.
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-06 20:01:45 UTC Post #304998
It would be nice if not how fire works in source, ticking every second instead of a steady drain, messing movement up.

Im still trying to wrap my head around why there are 2 machineguns in the game

You talk like it's a bad thing that it's not identical to CS:S in every way, rufee.

Just like people said it was a bad thing that CS:S wasn't the same as 1.6 in every way.
Archie ArchieGoodbye Moonmen
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-06 20:57:20 UTC Post #305001
I think what people are getting at is that like rufee said; the movement feels restricted. I welcome new weapons, and who wouldn't but restricted and slower/goofy movement is a major screw up imo. You have less control.

And although new weapons are nice, the tazer gun? In my opinion it's alittle lame to have a one shot kill pistol like that. The weapon just seems out of place in this game.

Yes changes are great, but not negative changes. I'd give up nicer graphics for better movement any day.
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-06 21:04:41 UTC Post #305002
Yeah of course, because when you're on fucking fire you can definitely expect to have clear, logically sound ability to move and control yourself.

And to argue that point is ridiculous anyways because every single source game works this way. Why do you act as though this is strictly a CS:GO issue?
Crollo CrolloTrollo
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-06 21:37:50 UTC Post #305003
The main reason i dont like source at all is the movement. If they dont fix that shit up in CS GO, its a no go.
Stojke StojkeUnreal
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-06 21:55:02 UTC Post #305004
Collapse, I didn't say it's only go. But go has the issue just like all source mods. What is your point?

And being on fire had nothing to do with movement besides player blockage.

It is a flawed idea because ie, I was playing nuke and on t side and threw a motif at the beginning and everyone had to wait for it to go out... You understand where there is an issue here?
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-06 22:11:58 UTC Post #305006
Sorry about the err Zeeba, I thought rufee's only comment about movement was his post about source's burning movement therefore I thought you were saying that movement being restricted whilst burning alive was silly. Sorry, I'm too tired to be on TWHL right now.

I do still think it's a bit silly to treat this as though it's a negative 'change' just simply because it wasn't 'fixed' though. I mean, like you said, it's in every source game, so what's the problem? It wasn't intentionally put into CS:GO or anything... It's just different from 1.6.
Crollo CrolloTrollo
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-06 22:35:32 UTC Post #305007
Well, it being the latest mod of cs; maybe they could have fixed the gameplay to feel more like the ever so popular 1.6.

I don't know about anyone else but I don't play cs source because of this and it would have been nice if they fixed it.
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-06 23:19:39 UTC Post #305010

wait, you threw it? and it blocked your team? sounds kinda like a team flash to me, not really the fault of the game...
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-07 01:48:57 UTC Post #305021
I get what he means though, cs players aren't known for their best sportsmanship and griefing 10 year old bitches tend to take the most exploitable elements and well... Exploit them as much as they can.
Even non-griefers will abuse this stuff for their own benefit, accidental or dickfaced team flashes are frequent and bad enough as is. Giving molotovs to cs players is like giving molotovs to preschoolers. It ends bad.

Sloppy movement? It's an error in my book. But that's ok; I just won't play the game. Let me rephrase that. "change it"... Don't get me wrong, the game is down right sexy. I just wish the gameplay was atleast as sharp as 1.6.

And yes I threw it, testing what I could do with the motif. Yes blinding your teamates is one thing but setting a fire barrier is another. I guess it wouldn't matter if ff wasn't on?

Dude I totally agree Collapse. In de_dust_thunder I have explossive barrels and xzec told me people might grief revenge their teamates by shooting them when their teamates are close to them, something I thought about myself.
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-07 03:11:57 UTC Post #305028
I agree with the console game thing. It feels like COD- in a bad way, and the weapons seem weak. The new recoil reticle is just awful and the hostages are as stupid as ever.

What most of us in out minds wanted was a 1.6 facelift, i mean source players can still play source why not give 1.6 players a graphics overhaul instead of another CS:S with a round counter.
rufee rufeeSledge fanboy
Posted 12 years ago2012-04-08 14:17:05 UTC Post #305076
Not sure I agree with that.

I think it's just the next logical step forward. It's everything to CSS that CSS was to 1.6. It's also a lot more like CSS than it is like CS 1.6.

Much better graphics, more accessibility, new weapons, a new game mode, streamlined competitive play, new versions of classic maps.

It's still the same game, but that's a good thing - it's just changed enough to be fresh to existing players without stepping too far into the territory of other modern shooters.

Again, keep in mind that CSS is over 8 years old now. It's high time for a revitalisation.

I hope they actually work on all the maps the same way they have Italy and Aztec. Nuke and Train in particular look terrible. Porting the CS:S maps, adding some thick fog and some brown/desaturated colour correction is hardly the recipe for a new game.

The rest is looking pretty damn nice, I just hope they're consistent.

Nuke, Train and Office are all fairly clearly unfinished. They have never been included in the "test weeks" where specific elements are tested on all of Valve's servers for the week. Last week was cs_italy 24/7. Now it's the two ar_maps.

As a game its fun and much more appealing to new players, but to me its a different game. What im raging about is that there was no need for a new cs game.
