Alright, I've been working on this map for a while, saved a good bit of times without errors and compiled it often.

When I closed the map with the intentions of re-opening it, something strange happened and it reverted to a version from about 7 compiles ago...

What happened? It removed a large portion of my map I had worked on. I still have an .rmx file but I'm not sure how to go about opening it. And, Atom, the Compilator is set to clean up the .map files. Does it go anywhere? Because it did not end up in the Recycle Bin... or did it?

Anyways, how can I get the regular map back?

Check your file first to make sure you didn't somehow accidentally make a visgroup of the new area and hide it. If not, then change the file extension of the .rmx to .rmf. Make sure you back up the .rmf first, however, just in case the .rmx is an even older version somehow.

-There are no visgroups.

-I tried changing the extension, but when I opened up the new .rmf file, my hammer froze for a second and said it was out of memory.

I guess I'll just have to redo what was in the older version.

the compilator should only clear up unnecessary files in the BSP directory. Your .map should still be in your rmf directory.

Idk Arch, i deal only in .rmf(i know some people use .map exclusively), and while compilator creates a map file during the compile, it's gone when the compile finishes, at least for me(using compilator 3):

Dimbark: this sounds like a hammer glitch to me, but i must say i've never had it happen before.

I personally do hard backups to a separate folder every hour or so of editing time, or right before making a big change to the map,and zip them, e.g.:

map0000.zip
map0001.zip
map0002.zip
etc, etc...

so when these glitches occur, you're not left hangin ;)

BTW, what version of compilator are you using?

Compilator 3.

And it doesn't really matter anymore, I've remade the map.
