B'aw thanks guys but yeah, there is zero chance for me to catch up in votes at this point.
You mean.. Z3RO chance! cough

Also, +1 for the good Captain from me. Z3RO's is a bit plain, and I can't understand why no00dylan's stabber has a steamer on it.

I think you would've gotten more favor CT if you blurred those grossly aliased hammer-edges.

With all the great ideas that came about last time, let's see what we can do with something a bit more unique.

Design and model an explosive device. This can be anything from a grenade, to a time bomb, to a landmine, or more...

Let's see the steampunk mad scientist in you come alive!

Voting this go around will be tallied by Facebook photo likes, with alternate voting available on the Osiris Studio forums.

Have fun creating and we look forward to seeing what you come up with!

You said it, Urby.

I really wish I could find something to just help me.

I mean, I know the basics, the tools, but I don't know how to use them to make something as complex and big as a model.

I can make an icecream cone, a straw, and a very simple desk made of blocks.

Lern by doing is the best way. The learning curve is a bit sharper than mapping tho(i need to finish figuring out uvw unrwap/mapping myself really badly).

We are all spoiled from using hammer becasue it is so dam easy to use ;)

Come on guys. I learned Blender in a single semester, surely you could learn some form of modeling software in no time at all!
Sort of. I sort of learned Blender.

I may enter this. Maybe. Probably not.
EDIT: Nope, didn't read the fined print. Not eligible until well after the closing deadline.

idk jeff, i would not recommend blender to anyone(especially a newb), it's so fucking weird. (i'm sure it will improve much as they continue to update it)

I think i may actually try to do this one in milkshape maybe; it's been a while, but i remember it being very easy to use, and i'm sure it's been improved since last i tried it.

I like max but damn it's expensive. I've heard good things about XSI and digital sculpting with Zbrush, but never tryed either yet..

Blender? Its not THAT weird....it's....unique.
Posted 11 years ago2012-08-08 10:59:54 UTC Post #308860
Blender's... unconventional, but once you get the hang of it it's quite an efficient workflow. You just need to learn the hotkeys.

Yeah, just go with something you want to make, model it, then do it again and again. One of my first actual models was a Glock 17. Thing sucked. So I redid it. Was better, but still not so good. So I did it again. I tried to get it into Half-Life as a viewmodel. Failed. But someday, I'll remodel it, and try to make it a viewmodel again.
And then there are the three times I made this single shot beauty;

Should probably finish the current iteration of it, get the trim modeled on. I think that's about all I need to do, meshwise, contrary to the WIP shot I just posted.
EDIT: Oh jeez, sorry to hijack the thread.

My idea would be an ornate glass ball full of nastiness rather than a conventional grenade. Two liquids sitting in separate compartments which create a powerful explosive when they mix. You throw it and it detonates on impact.

Can't model though. :(

do some concept sketches and hire a modeller to model it up for ya. Maybe rim would be interested in doing it for a modest fee, and a stake in the $100 prize. (if you win)

actually, i'd be willing to model your idea and unwrap it, if you agreed to paint it maybe. get on pm if you're interested in moving forward with the idea ;)

i'd love to do this, but, if i were you i'd try parenting to rimrook first, because he's pro, and you'd almost certainly win =)

I'm going to Leeds music fest in 4-5 days, I probably won't be happy with the textures at that stage so please judge accordingly! If people like this I'll be more than happy to continue work on the textures when I return. :)

Cheers!

Why are there two keys?
Aesthetically it looks cooler, practically it could be justified as a spare key.
Posted 11 years ago2012-08-18 20:46:47 UTC Post #309145
Well you couldn't lose the main key, they're on the same keyring. And if the main one breaks, it'll break in the lock, which a spare key can't help very quickly.
I realise this is nitpicking.

I realise this is nitpicking.
I did considered this and my only justification was if they bought the product and were too lazy to separate the keys.

Also saying if the key breaks in the lock was stupid, that's an inherent problem for all locks.
Posted 11 years ago2012-08-19 08:56:53 UTC Post #309152
I just meant the two things that would render the one of those keys useless is losing it or breaking it, and both have flaws in the concept of a spare.

On wednesday I'm off to a music festival for like 5 days, so I'm trying to get it done without rushing.
