My major problem in mapping: textures. I can't find any, I can't make any and I see so many awesome textures in maps of this site that makes me wonder if there are any online resources for texture packs etc.
The only site I know CGTextures is very disappointing.

If you think you can't you won't, making textures is easy, takes just a bit of ps skills to make them tile. I usually just google a texture i need (ex. Wood texture) and rescale them for goldsource.

It sounds like we could use a good tutorial on that :)

The hell are you talking about? CGTextures is amazing, the most useful place for making textures. It's got thousands of different materials, and everything is well organised. What more could you ask for?

CGTextures is great... if you want free unlimited low res textures, or know how to use the clone stamp tool.

CGTextures is just about the only place I use. Learning how to use photoshop is your next step.

but, here are a few more places for you:

CGTextures seems to need an account to download the textures, otherwise after 4-5 downloads I get blocked. Other than that, yeah the textures are good, everything needs photoshoping tho (I can't even draw a line in photoshop but I can always ask friends).

Assuming that's true (I wouldn't know), what's the problem with needing an account?
I can't even draw a line in photoshop
The Line Tool might help you there.

It's not free

Well, I just checked it out, and it sure doesn't look like it is. What with right under the Members tab it's got "Free Account", and doesn't ask for money.

I am in process of making a single mega wad of all the textures i have.
There will probably be doubles, but ill keep in mind to check it all. So far the WAD size is 40MB.

But, if you ask me, i think its better if i split it into Decals, Types, etc. Multiple WADs.

Tsaras, I literally have no idea what you are talking about. :P

CGTextures is completely free unless you go premium. Even if you don't go premium you get a 15MB limit every 24 hours which is plenty.

Yeah, you won't need more than 15mb of textures every day, that'll get you 10-20 1024x1024+ textures.
