My bad a bit, though. I assumed that since the spoilers had already been released above me, I didn't need to bother hiding them. That was probably a stupid thing for me to do.

[spoiler alert]
I haven't actually watched this yet, don't know if I'm finishing it tonight, but I had to pause and laugh hard.

I am watching A matter of life and death(Stairway to heaven(1946), with David Niven.

I just have to quote the guy who is responsible for "killing people"( or taking them to heaven, or something):
-And what should happen to a man who jumps from his aircraft without his parachute?
-How do you know?
-But it is I who I'm killing you my friend. It is I! Your time was up! But I missed you, because of your ridiculous English climate!
Damn, I am in tears. The Brits should use this section of the film for their new anti-immigration campaign. :walter:
On another note, I am simply astonished that I'm watching a 40' film in color! I know my parents have watched another film with David Niven, "Towers of Navarone", and I'm planning on watching that after the exams.
Do you guys know of any good classics that combine fine humor with a wonderful story? When watching such a film it seems that all modern films are all about special effects.

[EDIT] Seen the whole movie. With some flaws, but... a very good movie.

I watched the LOTR trilogy recently to prepare myself for going to see the Hobbit, only to find the money in my drawer that I had been saving has mysteriously vanished. No Hobbit for me. :(

Saw Django as well. The pacing was really screwed up but it was good otherwise. Nice to see Samuel L Jackson get a good role and play it well.

Saw Looper. I quite enjoyed it, despite the paradox already mentioned. Also, if the kid wasn't Gohan from Dragonball Z, I don't know who is.

Also may me say, in regards to the spoilers thing, despite what I read here, buggered if I could remember it while I watched the movie! So I guess spoilers have no real affect on me.

That said, Snape kills Dumbledore.

Finally saw Django Unchained.

It's was pretty good--not the best, and not as good as I'd been led to believe.
I definitely think Tarentino took more stylistic liberties than he needed, though. I just can't get over how many fine skills Django just happened to be a natural at, especially his gunslinging. I also agree that the pacing was pretty poor.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica - The Beginning Story and The Eternal Story
Both were...amazing. Masterpieces. Of course, being a massive fan of the series, I am quite possibly biased. Both were beautiful, intense, and Eternal made me cry for various reasons at, like, 8 points. Western movies just don't do that for me.

Cineplex. Surprisingly, they actually brought the movies to my city for a single showing each.
Can't wait until it comes out on Bluray/DVD. It would be enough for me to get a bluray-enabled disk drive, actually. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Cloud Atlas. A daring book transposed in a hard to watch, but inspiring and beautiful movie. I am disgusted by the dystopian future representation, but that's because I think it's natural to fear such scenarios.
It's hard to describe the film. This is the IMDB description:
An exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.
That is the main subject of the movie, but the melange of stories it presents creates an intricate connection between the past, present and future. It's an exploration of love, justice, humanity, moral values and fate.

As a side note, I much prefer the natural landscapes from the past than the polluted, fully artificial city. Altohugh, again, such a preference might be influenced by our present mindset.

Cloud Atlas was an outstanding movie.
I can definitely say that the future with the waitresses and the boat made me cringe. I was honestly shocked when i watched that part.

Aside from that, the movie is excellent.

I watched Real Steel. I was expecting a shitty action movie, but what I got was neither an action movie or shitty. It was hardly a masterpiece for the ages but it actually made a single tear run down my cheek at one point, so was at least competent in what it tried to achieve. Might've been the rum, too.

I had a very hard time accepting that it took place in 2020.

Before that I watched Frogs. It was so fucking bad that it was good. But seriously, it was bad.

I've been watching the Rocky movies, as I'd never seen them before. They're quite good actually, especially the first one. And now I am getting a few cultural references which had previously eluded me.

Also, I'm watching Primer in between my lectures and stuff on my tablet, generally 5 or 10 minutes at a time. It's slow paced enough that watching it this way isn't actually that bad, and I'm hoping that watching it slowly will give me time to think about it and more properly understand exactly what's happening, because after the first time I saw it I was completely lost.

I've watched quite a few recently, in alphabetical order:

Akira
Apollo 18
eXistenZ
Hollow Man
Inception*
Metropolis
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest*
Pulp Fiction*
Red Dawn (original)*
Spirited Away
Steamboy*
Taxi Driver
The Thirteenth Floor

* Not the first time watching these

The ones I would call notable for being very good would be Akira, eXistenZ, Spirited Away and Taxi driver, only counting the ones I hadn't seen before.

I've never really watched anime before, but I decided to watch Spirited Away because I had heard it was good, and Adam Savage recommends it. After seeing it, I decided to see what other animes I could watch. I had seen Steam Boy before and quite liked it, so I decided to watch Akira after hearing it was by the same guy. I wasn't disappointed. I especially liked how well it was animated, the only flaw I noticed was that when they're in the police station after Tetsuo is taken away, the colours on the badge of one of the officers disappear a few times.

It's definitely worth watching the other Ghibli films, then, TJB. Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and the various others are all worth your time.

I haven't seen a lot of other standalone anime films (ones that aren't associated with a series), does anybody have any more recommendations?

I shall have to look those up.
And my friend recommended Royal Space Force: The Wings of HonnĂȘamise, which I will try to get a copy of. We've both got similar interests, namely spacecraft and aeronautics, and they apparently both feature quite heavily in it so I am definitely interested.

Even more movies:
Apollo 13
Brazil
Dark City
Memento
Memories
Miracle Mile
Paprika
The Usual Suspects

I'd say the ones here that stood out were Apollo 13, Brazil, The Usual Suspects and Miracle Mile.
I wish I hadn't known about the ending of The Usual Suspects beforehand, as it seems like it would have been a fairly good twist. When I started watching Miracle Mile I didn't have particularly high hopes for it but I was quite pleasantly surprised.

And I'm still trying to get a hold of Wings of Honneamise, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding a way to get a copy.

Just came from Fast and Furious 6.

Appalling cliches, yet I didn't go for the story. The action scenes were mediocre to good.
Overall, it was worth my money and time, but it can be done better.

I watched Westworld last night. It is currently sitting with Miracle Mile in the list of movies that I watched, expecting them to be fairly interesting but nothing more, and ended up with a new favourite movie.
It is a short list, but hopefully it will keep growing.

Also I could swear that James Brolin is secretly Christian Bale's father.

Rating (out of 10): 10.

The best movie I've ever FUCKING seen. EVER. Totally awesome, a bit of exaggeration here and there, but overall, the totally bad ass movie I've ever seen last... FOR EVER.

And now, I hate Ferrari after watching that movie.. What bastards...

What is the oldest movie you watched that still feels modern/contemporary?

For me, it's 2001: A space odyssey.
