I suppose I'd like some insight on this, since TWHL is filled with mature peeps unlike your average forum.

You know how people on the internet troll others because they find it funny and enjoy the extreme reactions and whatnot? What if... there is a reason behind this? Perhaps trolls are like infectious zombies. You know, if one bites you and you become one yourself. It will be spreading unchecked.

Now I know what you're thinking. This isn't true because TWHL is mature and even though people here prolly got trolled before, they don't become trolls. Or at least on this site. But I think this all relates back to the human desire for vengeance.

Now I know we here are all grown up and mature, but no doubt you know some people are still young and proactive. I think that if these kids who are still young got BADLY trolled, they will have some kind of rage that builds up inside them because revenge cannot be done on the internet, especially when young kids are no match against some older troll. SO THEN they have this unfelt rage inside them, having to vent against somebody for being PWNED but nowhere to express it. So they becomes trolls themselves. Pass on the pain they felt to others, and continue this vicious and self-sustaining cycle of pain and suffering.

This is all theory, of course. I have no idea if this is true. Prolly not. Feel free to add your opinions below.

i love trolling, but since 95% of people find my type of troll offensive/unfunny/dumb, i fight the urge to talk about J. Connor in the shoutbox every other minute.. NOAH TEH MACHEENS! ='(

Some of the serious threads back in the day about religon or how bad america sucks, were fun times to be trolled young and old alike =)

i'm talking about something that can be really serious, like trolls cause people to suicide, or that one time where some girl died in a car accident and people posted pics of her mutilated corpse on her memorial facebook profile for the parents to see

Trolling is an art.

As with anything there is a difference between complete idiocy and having a laugh.
Most of what you may see online is idiocy.

I frankly loathe the word "troll" used in this manner. It just glamorises-up the phrase "be an intolerable asshole".

Having never actually gotten the urge to troll, I can't say how or why people want to. But since I don't want this post to be a complete waste, I'll leave this quote from an unknown source here:

I also hate actions typically referred to as "trolling" (spits). If it involves being a complete little fucking shithead to someone, it's not funny no matter who it targets, whether I care the slightest bit about them or not.

Cynical people who don't fail at making sarcastic remarks in real-life will be the ones who will excel at being trolls online. It just happens that they have this engine inside them which needs food. That engine dies the moment no idiots are near.
