I use either my own servers or imgur.com, you can just paste the link here and it will auto hyperlink if it begins with http://example.com/1.jpg
use [img] tags if the image fits here, if its bigger than the thread width then it will distort the website.

imageshack was my go-to until they started charging for uploads.
imgur.com is great.
I think large images only distort the page in journals.

Thanks guys! I'll probs put another couple of images on here soon; I've put 3 in my journal. Also I now use imgur.com; how the hell do they keep it running? Maybe they have expensive, small adverts :D

Thanks Rufee and Tetsu0, you're always a great help!

I think Imgur is the image hosting site for Reddit, so they probably fund it. It's also now my default since Imageshack started charging.

Anyway, I wasn't able to get the animations sorted out for the pool cue, so these are two seperate models files, shown next to their brushwork originals:
User posted image
I might try moving the origin of the cue leaning against the table so that it's on top of the table so it's lit up, and then fake the shadow from the table by modifying the model texture.

I'm really getting quite excited thinking about all of the possibilities. :)

Yeah imageshack charging is a bit of a dick move, I don't understand how they justify this under the current circumstances.

The Maus

I need to figure how to texture it.
I'd like to use default HL textures if i can.
If all else fails, I'll whip up a wad to go along with it.
I made a dev wad for tracks, silhouette and camo. Barrel is steel for now.

I decided to give weapon modelling a go:
User posted image
I was surprised, as this took roughly 10% of the time to make compared with SketchUp. That, plus the possibility of texturing it*, animating it* and ultimately making it* into a weapon model for HL means I will definitely be looking at this further.

Although, as you may be able to see I have to work on figuring out smoothing.

*Of course, by it I mean a version that isn't at 2346 tris.

Messing about with animations.
I am aware that the cases come out weirdly, but right after I noticed that Blender messed up and wouldn't let me change the keyframes.

Looks great TJB.

A few things I would recommend revisiting is the chamber cylinder and work on the smoothing groups. If it's a chrome material, the geometric detail will get lost almost completely. Reordering the smoothing groups will make the best of the polygons invested in that area.

Like this:
User posted image
Secondly, revisit the grip and get those smoothing group fixed up. A good way to improve it is on the flattest part of the grip, which would be the side. Give it it's own smooth group so all of the polygons touching it won't be fighting to smooth it out. Most guns have some kind of paneling there any way and is often a signature location for artwork.

Also, I love how the back strap rolls around the whole grip. It's difficult to seemlessly do a few things like that. I had a lot of trouble with this kind of stuff when I was making the 2shot.

Great work, that's all I can see without a wireframe and it looks solid.

I think I've figured out the smoothing now:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g3Tb-ZQMF8
I tried what I think you meant about the grips, but it didn't look as good imo. Maybe if it were rubber grips with wood panels like on a Ruger Redhawk, but this is going to have plain wooden grips with the little medallion.

Also, here's a wireframe view with the frame and cylinder highlighted:
User posted image
. I could probably cut down on detail a lot more and make up the difference with texturing.

Also Ghost, that is certainly an interesting texture. Did you make the model?

Aw, everything is awesome but the part i highlighted.
User posted image
If you need a little extra definition, try the inset version. I think it's only 1 more polygon than what you have already. 2 counting both sides.

Most of these techniques are things I learned from de-resing high poly models into low poly versions. Sometimes I start high just to get a solid form then reduce until it's applicable.

Gaw I need to learn blender <.<

I need to learn it because Max7 is massively outdated and I think it's becoming unstable. It crashed twice just modeling out that revolver chamber and the clicking exit doesn't close the program, I have to kill the process in task manager to close it.

I watched this series on BlenderCookie, plus one or two other videos. Then I basically just messed around until I got the hang of things, googling stuff every now and then if I couldn't figure something out. I think I might have figured it out quicker than someone with no experience due to all the time I've spent with SketchUp, but you would probably pick it up even quicker if you've got experience in Max. I had no experience with UV mapping or animating beforehand. Although I think I still need to work on animating.

Anyway, I hastily threw this metal barrel texture together to have a look if my technique was any good. I am honestly surprised by how not crap it is:

Map 1 of 3 (possibly 4) of a map pack i've been cooking up over the past week or so. It's quite silly and I'm very excited to release it :)

It took about a week of planning the layout (drawing)and i wanted it to be something special not like 4squares so i got something like this

yes its a tetrahedroN!
Tho this image doesn't do it justice , a lot of stuff has been changed to make it perfect. So after a week of planning next 2-3weeks were just making it perfect with the chockpoints and bombsites. But i kind'a got tired of just layout phase so i started working on places that i knew won't be changed and got some ideas while i progressed currently i have like 20+ versions of the map and i'm planning on making a time-lapse since people seem to like those?
Also here's an example of how much B site/side changed

I've never played CS so I can't comment on how the layout might work, but it's looking like a pretty sexy map so far.

As for more news on my model that I'm probably posting too much about, I'm happy with how these textures are coming along. I've just done the cylinder.
User posted image
Apart from the wooden grip, and the two screws on the frame (lifted from the grip and recoloured as a temporary measure), this was made from scratch. It's still not done yet, but I was thinking that maybe if I have the patience I might try making a very-mini-mod where all of the textures and stuff were made by me. But first I need to figure out a way to make satisfactory wood chequering so I can say I made all of this model myself.

@Lajron: The 2nd screenshot is beast! Really digging the derelict looking walls, but some of the other textures are too clean compared to the rest of the level (angel 1st screenshot, roofs...). Lighting is pretty wishy-washy too. I'd get rid of the grass in exchange for some dirt/pavement.
Map has potential, can't wait to see it finished!

@TJB: If you`re modelling for goldsource please go overboard with the texture noise and bake the lighting into it :)
Otherwise it'll look like it's made out of plastic in-game, pretty much 99% of gs models out there.
