Right now i'm looking for land to build a house in or around Columbus TX. My dad owns land on the Cummins Creek just north of the town with a small cabin and my mom's family owns 100 acres on another stretch of the creek. I may get an acre on which to build if we are able to divide up the land hopefully this year.
User posted image
Well my plan is to build a house on it, possibly a barndominium. Maybe something like this.
User posted image
Once construction is completed I think it would be epic to host a TWHL lan party there. And being on the Cummins creek, if anyone's interested we could kayak, fish and enjoy the nature. I'd personally fillet the fish and fry it up for everyone.

As i'm not sure how long it will take to divide the land, build a house, all that, the date of the event would be a pretty long time away and hard to tell when. But I hope to have it some time in/ around 2017-2018. I know it's a long way away to begin planning but hey why not?

We could play half life, counterstrike, csgo, tf2 and really anything along with meet each other in person :glad:. This is all open to discussion.

Think about it, all it will cost you is a round flight and some vaca. time whereas for me it will cost an entire house build.

I also think it would be cool to make some maps for the lan party. It would be cool to have a lan party map competition. I think the lan party alone would be plenty of motivation to crank out some maps.

Let me know what you think and if any of you are willing to possibly venture into something like this down the road.

Some homes I've designed in hammer. I've designed many more in other programs but these are a few I've considered building that I've mapped.

Sweet! Thanks. That would be awesome if you made it out.

To sum it up, Texas is... Hot! That's all you need to know. ;)

I'd be down. Would just require me to expand a few horizons, like travelling overseas, which I've never done, and going to America, which I believe I've said in the past that I would never do... but I'm sure a TWHL LAN party would be a worthy exception ;P

I'd be all for it if I happened to spare a few thousand dollars for the flight. I don't think that will happen within 2 years though.

Question: Your dad owns land. Your mum's family owns land. Why exactly do you want to divide it? And why would it take long?

If I'm ever filthy rich I'll host a grand TWHL meetup and take care of everyone's flight and accomodation.

Substituting "vaca" with the translation in my language: "cow". Some cow time? :quizzical:

Anyway, you do realize it's a USA party what you're talking about. USA is hard to travel to if you don't have relatives because you can hardly get those visas or what they're called.
Spending several thousand dollars only on transport is not my kind of thing either. Yet.
Perhaps in 10 years I'll be able to attend. If TWHL still exists then.

All in all it sounds like a very nice idea, I don't want to discourage you.

So are you suggesting a TWHL cow time in Eastern Europe?
Posted 9 years ago2015-01-11 09:54:42 UTC Post #323197
Pretty much anyone can visit America (or any other country), you're thinking of a work visa which is more difficult to get. Some countries participate in a "Visa Waiver Program" with US, which requires a $14 "travel authorization" fee. If you're not in those countries, the fee for an actual visa seems to be about $160.

The idea of a meet-up is nice, but I can't plan that far ahead (and flights are quite expensive) :P

If money is an issue, down the road I may be able to help someone out via wire or paypal that wants to make the LAN party.

Just send me an email when we figure out a date.

I wouldn't miss it if I were you, you have plenty of time to get a pass port. I'll pick you up at the airport. Maybe we can plan when people should arrive so we can all drive to my place in the same trip.

We have plenty of time to plan and book early flights for cheap. Let's just start by discussing what kind of maps we could make for it.

Even if it doesn't end up happening, it' worth the effort trying.
Posted 9 years ago2015-01-11 10:39:04 UTC Post #323199
Its actually pretty easy to get a visa to USA for vacation reasons as PB pointed out.
A meet up would be awesome, maybe do one sooner somewhere else and then a LAN in USA later ? :D

You are all welcome to come to Eastern EU at your own risk ;)

Hehe at least there's no risk coming to the US, besides maybe heat stroke or drinking the fluoridated water. ;)

I'll probably remake an old map of mine for the LAN party. I played CS GO with my brother today and it was pretty fun.

Flights from Australia would cost a couple of grand return... But I've often wondered what it would be like to meet some of the people on here face to face!

A road trip quest from New York to Texas would be fun, but it's a bit far :)

Maybe we could rent a big camper for a week and drive it from NY to to TX, picking up TWHLers along the way :P

Rufee: That's not a bad ticket price at all! If I still lived near the city I'd invite you and DiscoStu out for a tour.. Tetsu0 is just up the road in Connecticut, and I think JeffMOD lives close north of me in Ontario, CA??

It's a bit too far in the future to make any serious plans, but if I have the money to get there at the time then I'd definitely be up for it.

We should get a TWHL tour bus to bring all of the TWHLers.

That's the spirit Archie! Dude we'd have so much fun. Altdel would make for some awesome gameplay along with de_twhl2011.

I was thinking it could be a week vacation or just a few days or so.

Guys don't sweat the details it's a long way away. I don't even have the land to build on yet.

What games would y'all be interested in playing? I still only really map for goldsource. I'll work on a few fun maps until then and i'll try to recover some of my old maps and re compile them. My old rats map of my room (hl dm)is pretty fun. I'll probably focus on a few hl dm maps and cs 1.6 maps. Hopefully some more people can make it like Rim masta, he's just a stone throw away. And Grim could easily drive if he's willing to make it out.

EDIT: I'm so getting a projector with Mario cart for every old console.

Disco, you have to make it out. I will reveal to you all of my architectural secrets! ;)

Just fly into Houston. I'll probably just rent a van for the week for ~$800.00 and pick everyone up at the air port.

I suppose most of the enthusiasts( not saying I wouldn't be enthusiastic about it!) here don't have to travel from 30-40 hours and make several stops in order to switch planes. Also pay about 2000 euro for a round-trip - economic class - can you imagine 10 hours sitting in such a seat? I've travelled 11 hours by train before, and if it hadn't been for the landscapes, a book and the sheer luck of sitting next to an engineer who had a lot of subjects to talk about, I would've gone mad.
My country also doesn't have the Visa waiver program.

Traveling for a medium-class citizen is... quite expensive. Both financially and psychologically(if he travels alone).

It's a bit optimistic of you to expect a number of flights from around the world to land at about the same time in Houston :P

But yeah, we have plenty of time to plan it.

I thought Rim was in Florida. If the blue line in that map is ~2700km, Florida is about 1200km away. That's not a stone throw away. That's a distance comparable to going from Portugal to Switzerland. That's three countries away :P

I've driven to Florida. :^_^: I'm sure some people will make it and some will not.

I've made flights like that a number of times Striker. It truly is uncomfortable, but long distance flights typically have screens with a selection of movies and tv shows on the headrest of the seat in front. Plus you can always sleep.

Money is definitely something I could see being an issue for people though. Maybe if you start walking now you could make it in time. I just hope you can swim.

If Inception is an acceptable reference, the longest flight in the world is Australia-Los Angeles at... 24 hours was it? And then you need another 2-3 hour flight to do Los Angeles-Houston.

You're in for some fun.

I'm sure someone will have an extra pc.

I feel for those that are so far away. I hope in time you are able to make it.

Perhaps Archie can film the event!

Would y'all be interested in me making a party out of it for one of the days or would you prefer just TWHL members? My direct friend base is lower now that i'm currently not in school but I could make it happen.

@Disco, sorry I didn't see your question. We need to divide the land in order for me to build on it because otherwise my great aunt would flip out.

I'd build on my dad's land but it's only four acres and he's probably going to sell it/ buy more/ sell it and so on.
Posted 9 years ago2015-01-12 06:09:36 UTC Post #323236
It would be a party of its own, really. A TWHL party. I imagine it would be enough by itself, what with us all meeting at last. I'm generally bad at recognising people so I would probably object to bringing non-TWHL people at least until the last few days and if it's only for one day :P If it weren't for that, I probably wouldn't mind.
