Updated the first post again. Wooo, more participants. I'll have to get than transition room done and uploaded.

Is the transition room a black box outside the level that the player will be faded and teleported to, or will it be more like a visible airlock? Becuase, if it's the latter, I'm might need to rework the begining of my map.

Yeah, it's a sort of airlock. I'll put it up at some point tonight, along with the mod directory and my custom textures.

Agh... My intro assumed the player would be blinded, and then teleported into place.

I suppose there's nothing stopping you from still doing that. Just rig up the blinding and teleporting your own dang self either in or just outside the airlock, Apprehension-style maybe.

If you want to do that Doc.O, it's fine. All that will happen then is that the player will be in the next map's starting room when the fade dissipates.

I'm down. I'll start cooking things tomorrow, have some planning to do. Just to be clear, aside the transition room and playable area, i can make my level as large as i'd like? Reason i'm asking is building outside the tower, non-playable area/skybox; think of it as 9/11 where walls and windows would be cracked and you could see outside.
Posted 9 years ago2015-10-02 13:40:00 UTC Post #327149
2. Maps can be as big as you like, but MUST focus on descending. Regardless of what occurs in your map, the player must finish lower than the point at which they started.

Roger dodger, just double checking to see if anything changed; rules on these compos tend to be a bit volatile. I'd also be down for a collab, if anyone is short on time but still wanna make something out of it.

If you're doing a WTC 2001 scenario, some people may not appreciate it.
Posted 9 years ago2015-10-03 03:30:29 UTC Post #327160
whats not funny is that that scenario has already been done in HL, play the mod 'timeline 3: heart of darkness'
Posted 9 years ago2015-10-03 08:53:25 UTC Post #327167
Oh, it's not WTC; merely comparing them to get an idea for the scale of the scene: skyscraper/open urban area + holocaust. After planning a bit out the layout, i'm thinking of using Shawn's Wall Worm for anything that is outside the office area, since it'll all be player clipped anyway, somewhere around a ~7k epoly scene.
Unsure if the drawcalls from all the textures will make the GS gods too unhappy.

Is this: CLICKY the correct VHLT version?
Also, what compile settings will you use?

That should be the latest version (v34), Tetsu0. The last version released in 2014 was v33.

You can find the different versions here: http://forums.svencoop.com/showthread.php/40983-Downloads-amp-Changelogs

Is it okay to use props from gamerlab.com? They don't exactly do a stellar job at giving proper credits...
Posted 9 years ago2015-10-24 18:59:49 UTC Post #327322
I would say that if you aren't able to give the correct credit where it's due, it shouldn't be included. Sorry.

I've got a massive .zip archive full of models which I was hoping to use in my own project, but none of them are credited, so the whole thing is useless to me. :(

I've just been busy with real life stuff lately. I most certainly will attack this soon.

I started my entry yesterday. It's quite likely that I won't have anything usable by the deadline, as the huge amount of real life work that I've had since the beginning of the semester shows no signs of going away soon.
Still, I'll work on it whenever I have any free time.

Here's an in-Hammer shot of what I have done at the moment:

I've decided on a sequence of events that I can make simpler or more complex depending on how much free time I end up having to work on it.
The general gist of what happens is that the player starts off in their fancy house but has to descend beneath it for safety.

Hey guys, as much as I'd love to participate I literally have so much stuff to do; I don't physically have the time to dedicate to mapping. I apologise :(

I'd love to get in on this, but I don't have much practice with making single-player experiences. I'll try to make something by the deadline, but I don't know if it will match the quality of what everyone else is submitting. `-`
Posted 9 years ago2015-11-04 17:09:20 UTC Post #327405
If everyone decided by that, noone would submit anything.
Posted 9 years ago2015-11-04 17:32:17 UTC Post #327406
These are first drafts.
I'm sure once you get feedback, you can have a polished product on second submission

For goldsource, i've never made anything single-player either, Thatguy. I'll compete with you for the worst level submission.

Oh yeah, also my computer with the map I was making on it is... compromised right now, so that's put a bit of a dent in my workflow, too.

Hey guys. Maybe don't worry about this one so much. Perhaps it was too soon to call another gathering for a project like this.

I know I said I was going to take a back seat on this, but to be honest while staying true to the metaphor, I'm actually in a folding chair somewhere outside the gathering... You know?

I'm going to continue to polish TWHL Tower, bit by bit, and then focus on The Core a lot more.

I do like this concept though, and I intend to pick it up again in future, so don't throw away what you have. I also have other ideas that I think would make cool map packs.

I do like the concept as well, and even though I said is was going to participate, I may have to skip this one. I'm about to move to a new home, and most of my free time is consumed by Minecraft. I still play that very actively, crazy me. :P

Perhaps consider putting this project in the fridge (put it on hold) temporarily, for a couple of months or so. That should give you more time to, hopefully, finish TWHL Tower and The Core, THEN take this project out of fridge again.
Posted 9 years ago2015-11-06 08:47:20 UTC Post #327423
Wait, what? The Core is taking a backseat because of...this?

I'm almost done greyboxing stuffs, but i don't mind calling this one off. I won't be able to participate again in goldsourcey related stuff 'till spring though.
Posted 9 years ago2015-11-06 13:43:58 UTC Post #327424
It's not taking a back seat by any means. It's still my main priority after family, but there are times when I have to chose between polishing TWHL Tower or The Core.

What I'm getting at is with TWHL Bakurai, the only thing I had relating to it on my PC was the logo I made for this thread. :P

Having this thing canned in kind of a blessing in disguise - as I was working on my submission I had a brilliant idea for a single player campaign.

Can't wait to get it done :D
