I've got a small oddity: each time I quit the mod, Windows displays an error message (HL has stopped working). It doesn't prevent anything from working but still, how can we fix that? I don't think it's caused by my map…
Posted 8 years ago2016-01-30 22:08:16 UTC Post #328573
Not sure. It works fine on my end. I just loaded the mod and then hit quit. I didn't load a map though...
Does this happen for anyone else?

UPDATE : You need the following files from Spirit that Tetsu0 forgot to add in the TWHL Hub archive :

models/w_camera.mdl
models/w_portablemed.mdl
models/w_portablemedt.mdl
sprites/null.spr

Can I be added to the GoldSource roster ? It's been a long time since I haven't created a map and this would be the perfect timing to refresh my skills ^^

I've PMed you with my e-mail address for the Drive thingy.

Just to be sure : we make a single map that is another world with an enter/exit teleporter ? No others restrictions ?
Posted 8 years ago2016-01-31 02:41:04 UTC Post #328580
Yes, I already put them in the mod folder. So I don't know what causes it. But yeah, if I don't load a map, it quits fine.
Anyway, I added the missing files to the drive.
Would be cool if you join Shepard! Yeah the rules are 1 map with a goal, an entry teleporter and a exit teleporter of any kind.
Posted 8 years ago2016-01-31 04:55:39 UTC Post #328581
Yeah. Help the scientists and barneys and gordon get back to Earth . where ever your player start is, thats the start.
Set up an exit teleport somewhere, that's the end.

@Loulimi : Are you using the "beta" branch of Half-Life or the "public" one ?

I already started minor stuff like how my corridors/doors will look like, I forgot that terrain manipulation is painful sometimes ^^
Posted 8 years ago2016-01-31 12:40:52 UTC Post #328584
Are you talking about this option in Steam where you can choose to try the beta of Half-Life? If so, no, I don't use it.

@Tetsu0 In the Drive there are 2 models folders, 2 resource folders and 2 sprites folders...

This is one of the reasons I hate Google Drive.

It might be my fault for the models and sprites folders, I deleted the duplications. For the resources folder hwoever, not me! :P

Not your fault, I can't remember how many times I had this issue in the past hence why I moved to Dropbox (and so did ARRANGEMENT).

I'll make a "clean" version of the mod folder this afternoon with the proper bare bones without any kind of junk/useless files (unless Tetsu0 disagree and tell me to not do it).

How about a stipulation for GoldSrc, is that Sledge must be used to create the map?

I think it's a terrible idea. Sledge is still in alpha build, and lastly I don't see the point in restraining the mapping software.
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-01 23:08:57 UTC Post #328628
Agreed. Sledge exists to increase the number of options available to mappers, not to reduce it.

On that note... Maybe I should remove the alpha label from Sledge. It's alpha because it doesn't support Source, but it's ready to use for Goldsource.

Well, one day, when Sledge is more fleshed out, we should have a project using Sledge to help show it off to people outside the TWHL community.

Question: What is policy on using other people models (from other mods or websites like gamebanana.com)?
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-03 23:13:42 UTC Post #328649
From the rules Tetsu0 posted:
If you are supplying content that someone else made, note that person in your README so they are credited.
If you are supplying content that you made, note that in your README so YOU are credited.
Of course also make sure the creator has actually given you permission to use the content, don't just take stuff from another mod without making sure the creator allows people to redistribute it.

I'd like to streamline the mod if I make a map. What wads and models are other people using (you dont have to spoil if you dont want to answer), like SD, HD , LD whatever, and if I know other people are using a wad like say opfor.wad then I will try to include that wad in my map too if its going to be used. Same deal with models like if you use otis or something I'll try to use it too (if you dont mind)
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-04 12:31:20 UTC Post #328661
No need for that. I dont think.
I'll be doing the final compile on all the maps to link them back to the hub world so ill be handling resource organization.

Yeah, just use what you like. As long as no textures have the same name they can all be crammed into one .wad file anyway.

If you're only using a few from OpFor or BluSh then just copy them and stick them in a new .wad. :)

I can't promise I'll have much done by the deadline. I'll try, but I've found myself with less time than usual lately. I guess now that I have a job, it'll be like that.

Yeah. The deadline is for first drafts - and at that point, i'll be locking out entrants.
Then i'll give another deadline for the final drafts.

I just started my entry too so don't worry. I didn't have good inspiration until last night and i had to put everything on paper first.

Great!
Well, concerning my map, I've run into a big problem recently: it looks like Jackhammer doesn't manage entities properly, and as a result my map bugged for no reason even when I just added a meaningless entry to a multi_manager, and it still bugged after I removed it even though it wasn't bugged before. So, I decided to use another editor.
Unfortunately, it looks like Sledge isn't able to open rmf saved by Jackhammer, so I tried to open my map with VHE, but this time all my entities were gone. I had to export my map's entities to the .map format with JH (which only saved a part of the entities) and then load it into VHE. :/
I also tried to open it with Quark, but then brushes were bugged as hell! :P
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-13 12:58:26 UTC Post #328852
An RMF that Sledge can't open but VHE can? Sounds like a bug. Can I take a look?

Of course! What do you want?
But I'd say the fault comes from JackHammer, since VHE doesn't load the entities of my map when it opens an rmf from Jackhammer (and Quark doesn't load brushes properly).
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-13 19:09:18 UTC Post #328859
I use jackhammer all of the time, if you want bring me your .jmf file (the proyect) and i can see what's happening.

(sorry for my english, I'm argentinian)
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-13 19:11:16 UTC Post #328860
And @Penguinboy I don't kwno why but the rmf made by jackhammer can't be open by the sledge.
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-13 22:52:23 UTC Post #328867
Does it happen with any RMF created in Jackhammer or just this one in particular? If you could upload the RMF somewhere I could take a look and see if I could find the problem.

Here you have a very simple map: https://mega.nz/#!qFxE1CaZ!shtZ0wb8SRr3k2Je_mr3mHcdsjnlaXVoO0VdjZZmDk8

(only a room whit a light and a spawnpoint)
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-14 01:04:06 UTC Post #328870
Thanks. Looks like VHE and Jackhammer treat the DOCINFO (info about editor cameras) part as optional but Sledge won't open the file if it's not present. As a temporary fix to get the file to open in Sledge:

1. Open the file in a hex editor, for an online one try: https://hexed.it/
2. At the end of the file, add these bytes:
44 4F 43 49 4E 46 4F 00 CD CC 4C 3E FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 00
To do this in the online editor, open the file and scroll to the very end. There will be a box with a "+" inside it. Click the +, copy the text above and press Ctrl+V to paste. In the dialog that appears, select "Hexadecimal values" from the drop down box and press "Apply", then export the file.
