I'm going crazy. I can't fix this thing. I got a sprite from the GCF file and I've placed it in both "Valve Hammer Editorsprites" and "steamsteamappsaccountcounter-strikecstrikesprites", changed everything in Hammer, and still, after the two hour compile I get the "Mod_NumForName: spritescsflames.spr not found." The error is different according to what I put in Hammer ofcourse, for example, "this is frustrating" would be "Mod_NumForName: this is frustrating not found".

Please. Help.

"Mod-NumforName: xxxx.mdl not found"
Often because the cycler entity, cyler sprite or some other entity used has the wrong path/name. You must use the perfect path/name, with the right capitals - or it will stop the game. The path should start with model/modelname, not the whole path name. Sometimes browsing to the model works best, sometimes typing the path/name in works best.
Also if you have changed the model, for example a new player model or a new gib model, it can cause this problem. Re-install the old model.
Sometimes the "too many wads" problem sets this off too.

I use Steam, there are no sprites except for the ones in the GCF file. I got it from the DoD GCF file and put it in my Hammer/Sprites/CS directory.

"Often because the cycler entity, cyler sprite or some other entity used has the wrong path/name."

Everything is correct.

Perhaps the DoD sprites aren't compatible with CS. Have you totally unzipped the GCF files?

have you used the right (read: exactly correct) pathname?

DoD uses exactly the same things as cs/hl (save a few spawning entities + flags). so i don't think that's the problem (especially seeing as he has it placed in the cstrike folders

Is that sarcasm Anthony? I have tried "steam/apps/account/counter-strike/cstrike/sprites/" and that does not work either.

Tried a CS sprite (in Hammer/sprites/CS), no luck.

Put all the ten seperate wads into one with Wally. No luck.

I don't know if its Steam or anything, but I've never heard of putting sprites in the Hammer folder. I know the DoD ones are in there. On my CS (retail) my sprites are here:

C:/SIERRA/Counter Strike/cstrike/sprites

I'm not sure, perhaps Steam has a different setup. I'd have thought they'd have similar setups.

Oops sorry didn't read all your posts. This is rather strange. Try the 'Check for Problems' tool in Hammer (you never know...)

I will try to use the "counter-strike/cstrike/sprites/".

Still no luck. DoD sprite in the cstrike/sprites folder set up correctly in Hammer with only the extension and not the entire path, one wad. Sigh.

"but I've never heard of putting sprites in the Hammer folder. I know the DoD ones are in there."

You're saying that the DoD are supposed to be in Hammer but the CS in cstrike? Therefore me using a DoD in CS would mean that either directory would be faulty?

no. nevermind that. a sprite is a sprite, that doesn't change; if all paths are correct, and the sprite is in the folder to which the entity is pointing then it should be fine. btw. is a cycler_sprite what you want to be using? i'm not sure, so don't quote me, but i didn't realise you could set up a sprite with it.

anyway, try posting your sprite/map setup in the Problem Maps section of the Map Vault. it will get solved much sooner than by discussing it here.

Try selecting the sprite using the browse button.
