Hey, soldier, you left a pile of bodies there in a country you only arrived from yesturday. what did they do to you?

"They're the enemy, Sir."

Have you ever spoken to them?

"Of course not, Sir."

Never considered that they are just like you, with families and children, and aspirations to build a better life in the face of a bloody dictator your amry has been flown to defend?

"No, Sir."

Ever read anything about this country you're in?

"No, Sir."

Then how do you know they're your ememy?

"My commanding officer told me, Sir."

And who told him?

"His commanding officer, Sir."

And who's the chief commanding officer at the top of his heap?

"The President, Sir."

And who commands the President?

"The people, Sir, this is a democracy."

How may of 'the people' just told you to kill that pile of bodies?

"Well, one, Sir."

And who was that?

"My commanding officer, Sir."

And who told him?

(See above)

lol, hippies.

don't you know that wars are fought for reasons? of course war is bad, but from all bad comes good. the iraqi war right now is liberating the Iraqi people from the evil government there. we are still there because if we leave now, another evil dictator could come right back in and take over. All wars are a fight between good and evil. The soldiers in the war are fighting for one thing, and one thing only, to ensure the freedom of their country, their people, and all people worldwide. Sacrofices have to be made to achieve such thing, and it may be hard along the way, but in the end is a satisfying result. People are freed, and peace is restored.

BrattyLord:

America claims that a enemy to democracy is a enemy to the world -
how comes that Saudi Arabia is americas ally in the middle east?
Saudi arabia, where women have to wear scarfthingies, where dictatorship rules, possibly worse than Iraq.

The problem is that almost only iraqis belong to the sacrifices 'that have to be made'.
It also is quite obvious that this 'satisfying result' does not really satisfy the iraqis, the people who should have the decision whether they're satified or not.
BL, I cannot belive that you are so ... easy to influence.

You cannot fight for peace, you have to peace for peace.

If you are fighting for peace, then, you are contradicting the ideology of peace, so therefore it is you who becomes the enemy of peace.

The wars were all part of a system to inflict a reign of fear amongst us all. It is this chaos which brings a form of co-operation. There is no 'goodie' and 'baddie', both are controlled by the same.

You can bomb the World into pieces,
but you cannot bomb it into peace.

Jahzel, fighting does not always mean violence. It's okay to fight in a peaceful way.
Faring a war is a way to achieve the goals of one specific group very fast, nothing else. And you never achieve the goals of the attacked.

There is no glory in war
Try telling that to your average American war monger.

quotes can relate to qoutes on the forum, or famous quotes said by important people. like nelson mandela or donald duck (red dwarf)

I know, but Jahzel didn't name the author and since no one in this thread said it, I asked.

The quote is taken from the translation of the title of a famous war poem written by Wilfred Owen, apparently.

The translation? Wilfred Owen sounds a pretty English name to me.
