People who don't know this mustn't call themselves a 'mapper'!
:P
What about CSG, BSP, ZHLT and MHLT? :D

Constructed Solid Geometry, Binary Space Partition, Zoner's Half-Life Tools and Merl's Half-Life Tools. (Im guessing on the MHLT)

Hehe, good!
I can't think of any other abbreviations now, at least of none that are not so easy.
Posted 19 years ago2004-06-29 03:36:13 UTC Post #37361
They're pretty easy ;)

How about EDO? Without looking it up?

It was supposed to be funny, that's why I put a smilie below it.

@7th: Are you talking about EDO-RAM?
Posted 19 years ago2004-06-29 04:00:59 UTC Post #37369
Extended Data Out Random Access Memory? I think I rember hearing that a while ago, or seeing it on some page. Used in Pentiums and boosts speed. Correct?

The name is right, but it is not fast at all.
Afaik EDO-RAM is what they used in times of 368s.
You're talking about RD-RAM, but it's no that good either. DDR2'll come out soon, that one is really fast.
Posted 19 years ago2004-06-29 06:39:17 UTC Post #37394
Yeah - very old.

RD = Rambus Dynamic. Read about it, being prophesised as the new thing in a book from ~2000.

What moron called it DDR2?

I assume by 'it' you mean the RD-RAM.
Well, no one did.
DDR2 is supposed to become the new standart RAM type soon.

No, I mean "Double Data Rate Two"? Not TDR or QDR? That's almost as bad as some guy at my old school making promotional material for "2 Fast 2 Furious 3".

The Double Data Rate means that, in one ramcycle, two datapackages are transfered.
DDR2 does the same, but the overall speed and stuff is higher.
That's why it's still called DDR.

2 Fast 2 Furious 3

So, we know what BSP means. But, do we also know how it works? It's surely an interesting thing to read about... :)
Posted 19 years ago2004-06-29 13:36:27 UTC Post #37510
Try to search quake, ogl and game programming sites for it.
A friend of mine is a coder and he uses BSP for his game, which makes mapping a lot easier for me. :)

I've already searched around somewhat and in the weekend I've manually drawn out some bsp-trees of simple layouts. I'm trying to find out some more about it, it might be good to check the compiler's source code... :)

It surely helps to 'know thy engine'... ;)
