Hi all. I have a sky question. Is it possible to make a moving sky? you know, lets say that i want stars to move around or something like that, well i think that's not possible by why not ask? oh, and what resolution/how many colors sky images need to be? can they be 24 bit/400x400? Thx for any1 that will reply to this post.

Moving sky? No. Unless you want to use Spirit of Half-Life, wich features a UT2k3 sky-system. Otherwise, wait for HL2 with it.

As for sky files, these must be .tga files, 256x256. Color depth doesn't really matter as Half-Life seems to put them into 256 colors automatically, in-game that is. As far as I know... :)

or just take the sky picture, make your own texture and ut it on a train.

ieatmonkeychow thats an idea! but i don't think is this actualy possible. It already sounds "laggy". BIG visible trains as sky? maybe i'll experiment with that later, but i'm not sure about it... And about Spirit of Half-life, i have it but how could i use it to make moving sky?

Over at our Dutch forums we've experimented a bit with moving cloud layers. Nice, but hardly an option due to their sheer size and polygon amounts. You'll have to make these conveyors large, otherwise it'll look very fake. It may be useable behind windows and such, but I'd say when you use it, you should be consistent and use it on all visible sky. Wich isn't really a good option. So we decided it's better left out.

But you're free to try, ieatmonkeychow...

make a texture named something like scrollsky thats 256 x 256 and make it a converyer over your level and make sure it doesn't leak by covering the out side layer with a brush

^ Sounds laggy.

Like Captain P said, it would be useful for very small areas such as looking out windows and the such. I doubt that it'd work too well in an outdoor map.
