I just loaded valve hammer, batch compiler, and halflife on to my ghetto laptop. I am pretty sure i have everything in the right spot, but when i go to File New in hammer it says there are no texture for use in that game or something to that effect. Since i am making a CS map, do i HAVE to have cs installed?

Add textures. You need some WADs, presumably including cstrike.wad, but you can map on a computer without access to the game itself as long as you have all the other resources.

well, in the textures setup i have halflife.wad and zhlt.wad Its set up the same as the one im using on this computer. The only difference is that i did not put mapster in there, as i was told it was really necessary to have mapster. So im not quite sure what the problem is.

I see my problem. After i add the halflife.wad and the zhlt.wad files, and then exit out of the configuration they are getting erased out of the textures tab. When i go back in they are no longer there, why would it do this? POS laptop :(

Well, only thing I can think of is that you hit the cancel button instead of the ok button... but that's a bit over-obvious. Well, maybe reinstalling Hammer helps...

It very well could be the laptop...with specs like that amazing 90mhz processor ;) . Make sure you don't move the textures after installing them in the texture list, Hammer doesn't like that.

Maybe you're not an administrator and Hammer can't write to the registry. If it stores its settings there.

Add your textures, hit apply, then OK then close Hammer and reopen. Sometimes this works. Having CS installed helps, otherwise you wont be able to quickly test maps.

He can't run CS with his specs. You need at least a 233 to run HL, with low graphics and software mode. And a 500mb hard disk.

Ah, sorry didn't read the whole post.
Hang on...what are you mapping for? You really should find a way to run both CS and Hammer on one computer.

lol, sounds pretty funny coming from the guy with a 33.3k modem... anyway i think it would be quite hard to map on a laptop. come to think of it it would me quite hard to play cs on a laptop. a desktop is the only solution i see.

(btw, sorry anthony, but where do u live, antartica or summin?)

I'd take mapping on a laptop over no mapping at all...
