Is there a way to make it so soldiers keep shooting at you even if you run far away? My grunts who are in a building only shoot at me when I get close to the building. I want them to shoot at me if i can see them.

im thinking this isnt possible. however if you set up some machineguns controlled by the grunts and gave them a great enough range it should work. theres a tut on guns controlled by grunts.

So whats the distance that the soldiers will engage at?

im not actually sure of the distance. if you have the SDK check the grunts file and it should have it written in there somewhere.

You'd have to re-code Half-Life to give them better eyesight.

hey if you have the sdk and u know where it tells you how far grunts can see, can't you change the number higher? just a thought

You would have to rewrite that code into the existing game, though.

Hl wasn't built to make large maps - that's why grunts don't shoot from far away... try making smaller maps?

or you can have it that theres another building nest to it and when the player goes neer the window of the 2nd building the grunts start shooting at him. oh and have the grunts have hg, not the other one... too hard
Posted 19 years ago2004-07-17 21:57:51 UTC Post #42427
Why should I give the grunts the hg? And what's too hard?
Posted 19 years ago2004-07-17 23:40:29 UTC Post #42437
i meant the hw grunt is too hard ( i meant to type hw sry :D)

What's an HW grunt? The Heavy Weapons one in the SDK with the chaingun who didn't make it into the game? Give the grunts HG (HandGrenades), as they are much less annoying than the GL (ARgrenades) option.

good advice, i'd like to add that careful placement of nodes is a must:
don't just slap a few down and hope for the best.

Read collective's article on that

Thanks everyone. :)

I read the article but it says info nodes are for monsters to move. My grunts are stuck in a building and shoot from one spot. A weird thing is my grunts go places I didnt put info nodes. They chase me way far away from the nodes around corners and on other sides of walls from the info nodes. I thought they couldn't go anywhere but nodes?
