hey all.. I've look every where I could, on forums and web..

Is there a method to make a brush that has been made a "trigger_hurt" not be invisible? If not... Is there anyway to make a object hurt someone when contact has been made?

I have these wires connected to light poles.. and I have 4 copies of the wire surrounding the wire. left-top-right-bottom.

the reason I ask about this is I'm trying to cut down on my compiled bsp size. I'm not even sure if the Copies of the wires made into trigger_hurts are even part of the file size.. so maybe someone could answer that, and solve this whole thing..

u can try rendermode = texture and fx color = 0

trigger_hurt does not have those options.... thanks anyway

A trigger_hurt normally doesn't show up in the game... So I don't know what you have done... What properties has your trigger_hurt?

Also, what version of Half-Life do you use?

Another thing: for this wire to be unhealthy to the player, you don't have to put 4 copies of the wire around it and make them a trigger_hurt. Instead, create a wire that totally surrounds the original wire, so that it sticks out, and make that a trigger_hurt. Saves some time and is a bit easier to work with... :)

u are right there no rendermore option...

but my triger hurt brush is invisible by default (-:

he wants to make it VISIBLE not invisible. and i dont think you can.

dont you have to be inside the trigger hurt just a little bit anyway, so you would have to have it as a thing you can walk through

k. thanks for your replies guys... I've thought about making the wire that's trigger_hurt just a tad bit bigger and just overlapping the wire. but wheever I scale it up.. (due to the complex shape) it invalid objects me..

but maybe I need to do it with a slight more carress.. I'll try.. thanks

but still need to know.. does the trigger_hurt entity still count in the bsp filesize>?

Yes, maybe an extra half a kilobyte.

well you should see these wires.. and also how many I have...

Have your object, then make an exact repica only 1 unit bigger around it, tie ti to a trigger_hurt. This way it will look like when ou hit it, you get hurt.

maybe use multi-managers?? -- or link the object to the trigger_hurt?
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-26 15:59:36 UTC Post #45095
multi_managers have nothing to do with this. Linking objects to trigger_hurts? How would you want to do that? Nope, just a trigger_hurt surrounding the wire suffices.

As for the many wires... good luck! Mapping can (and does) take some time to get a good result, so join the club I'd say... ;)

Copying similar wires and such can be of great help here, I don't know if you're used to the method of moving a selection while pressing Shift, so to duplicate the selection instead of moving it?

Or maybe your wires are all of quite unique shape, in that case it's just going to take some more time.

tbh, why are you making exact replicas of the wire, a simple rectangle will do. there is no need to make exact copies (noobish).

t sounds to me (light poles etc) that these wires are in the air, plz tell me they're not (otherwise this is a pointless exercise).

you also say you have four wires (trigger_hurt's?) surrounding the visible wire? then that (like i said) needs to become one single brush of trigger hurt.
this is how it's done, not by making a trigger hurt visible.

as for increasing the file size, i think you'll find taking out complex brush-based entities will reduce the file size.

the problem of :

man u guys are funny
...

the reason i I don't to this...

why are you making exact replicas of the wire, a simple rectangle will do. there is no need to make exact copies (noobish).

the wires are drooping.............

resizing a copy(or a rectangle) makes it not line up along the wire....

peace... your funny

dont make them the same shape, if the wires are cylindrical, just make the trigger hurt sqaure. another idea would be a custom texture for a drooping wire? cs had some.

did u use the aaatrigger texture?
if not that might b the problem...
maby...
or maby not...
i dont know...

Even without the AAATrigger texture the trigger_hurt is invisible.
