There are a lot of nice honest people on TWHL, but not all of them can be moderators.

I agree with BL, although m0p does have a habit of flaming 'new' mappers. I however offer good help both in these forums and on IRC :D I guess that since BL hasn't been around for a while, he doesn't know who I am as much as you other people do. Spelling and Grammar shouldn't be too much of a problem, just try and use punctuation if you are editing someones post or something.

This is who I think should be moderators:
RabidMonkey777 (Definetly pick him)
Captain P (always has helpful comments)
Anthony (Quite helpful, and all round nice person)
Me! (Please?) ;)

i like the idea of a ranking system maybe you could do it with little pips bellow the user name.... so that even people who are unfamiliar with e sites hiyerarcy can understand it.

for example a set of say 5 pips or starts but greyed out untill you earn them at witch point they go red and then once you get a full set of red they could go silver and then gold. or somthing like that....

that way its simple so that everone will understand the ranks.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-07 21:27:16 UTC Post #48865
well, kol isn't on as much as most. Anthony doesn't have an av, so hes out. and trapt, you havn't been here very long at all. Why do you think you could be a moderator? I Know I was gone for a week, but you are pretty new here. I've been here 250 days, and I haven't been here long enough to be a moderator. (Rabids been here less, but he posts the best out of all of us.)
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-07 23:38:00 UTC Post #48885
How can you judge people by how long they have been here?!

I have been mapping for a lot longer than I have been here, so that's just a load of crap. Rabid has also been here as long as I have, yet somehow you lay off him. You can't rule out Anthony because he doesn't have an Avatar, you moron. He has 33k Internet, he probably cant be bothered uploading a proper avatar.

Everytime I come to this site, I am on IRC, and ask Anthony, I give help there if people need it. I help out in the General Mapping Questions as much as I can. And don't be fooled by my forum post count. I don't spam and most of my posts are about 2-3 paragraphs long. I only started posting in the forums lately, so that is the main reason for my low ammount of posts.

So don't give the crap that I am not good enough because I have only been here 106 days. I am capable of doing as much as anyone around here.

I bet you don't like me because I'm Australian, which is probably the reason you don't like Anthony either. :D

I just think that to be a moderator, you would need to have been at this site a long time. it has nothing to do with your mapping ability, so don't take it personely. People who have been here longer understand more of how the site works, and know the people better. They also have a constant urge to try and help TWHL. Give it time trapt, and you will adapt into one of the regulars at TWHL.

And I was joking about anthony. Why would an av matter in moderating? assume everyone has common sence.

There is something you should know about me, I joke way too much, so please don't take me seriously, unless you know that I am being serious. This here is a very serious post, because now I feel bad that I insulted trapt. I really didn't mean to, but just tell you that I don't think you are yet cut out to be a moderator of TWHL. This job is for the best here, not the best mappers, but for the best posters, most neutral people in arguments, best with spelling and grammar, is a mature individual, and has been here a long time. With time comes experience. remember that.

Example of how the new rating system will work

'The so-called drug's hideout prefab by the highly acclaimed RADIOACTIVE SOFTWARE found loitering around at PrefabLand'
User posted image
  • percentage of submaterialist rationalism.................0.01%
  • percentage of internationality...............................0.00%
  • percentage of constructive neotextuality................0.02%
  • percentage of neodialectic sublimation....................0.00%
  • percentage of Lacanist obscurity...........................0.01%
  • percentage of rubicon in cultural society.................0.00%
  • percentage of deconstructivism.............................0.0%
  • Overall percentage..............................................0.04%
Summary

In the works of Radioactive Software, a predominant concept is the concept of neocapitalist language. The subject is interpolated into an expressionism that includes narrativity as a totality. It could be said that the Drug's Hideout Prefab holds that we have to choose between cultural narrative and the dialectic paradigm of discourse.

If one examines expressionism, one is faced with a choice: either reject modern nihilism or conclude that shitness, perhaps ironically, has significance. If precultural capitalist theory holds, the works of Radioactive Software are reminiscent of a pile of elephant shit. However, the premise of cultural narrative suggests that narrative is created by the masses.

lol, jahzel.

I actually think someone from the US should be a moderator. SO when people in the East are asleep, they can help moderate the people over here. Im not saying i want to be a mod because heck, i dont really want to be one.

I just want to be the deathrow person... :)

He is right, I am one of the regulars, always on the website, and always on IRC. Well.... not always.... but quite a lot. I forgive you for not thinking of me as a regular, as you have spent large amounts of time away, and while you were away, I became known as a regular.

So..... yeah.....

Posted 20 years ago2004-08-09 22:41:40 UTC Post #49502
No one likes him, and hes just mean to put it plainly. I think that his name just says his attitude. Although when he was here he posted and rated maps, he didn't say one thing about himself in his profile. He never wanted to be a community member he just wanted to say bad things about peoples map (no matter how honest it was).

Yeah what a knucklehead. I mean, if you had a name like that would you dare make fun of anyone?
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-13 04:13:16 UTC Post #50542
I got an idea of a real minor improvement that could be made to this site. In threads that have > 1 page, you could put the page numbers of the thread underneath so that people can access any page number from the thread without going into the thread first. If you're confused, check this out:

"//" & "*/whatever*/" indicate comments.

The way the site is like now
ToDo //thread name

The way the site could look like with my input
ToDo [1,2,3...] // [page numbers]

Was that clear to everyone?
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-13 04:17:36 UTC Post #50543
Yup, sounds good. Page numbers down the bottom as well as the top would also do me just fine. That way when you get to the final post of the page you don't have to scroll up 50 posts to change the page.

and for Sen. members

I for one nominate Captain P for a moderator.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-20 22:07:56 UTC Post #52370
I also think this is a good idea for how our forums should look.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-20 22:29:28 UTC Post #52379
naw. I like our forum. If it changed, TWHL just wouldn't be the same. This is a classic forum, although I do support having the ability to change pages before even clicking on the thread.

The Captain is good. So is Rabid.

Also, keep the colors the same. This may not look like a very high- tech site with these colors, but many of the older member have come to know them, as one would the grass on their lawn.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-20 22:33:38 UTC Post #52384

No way Seventh! The only orange you want is FCBA04
Self coded forums all the way!

And just diving in here:

> the moderators are very well spaced through time zones:

Atom/Seventh in GMT more or less,
SlayerA in the US
And Andy in Australia

Thanks to everyone who mentioned me for Mod :P

And a user rating system is a good idea, but letting members rate members is counter productive: the number of people who will use the system properly will be less than the number of people who will abuse the system.
If a system like this could be implemented then users would have to be rated by members with "trusted opinions" - well, for obvious reasons...

but then again, how about we loose the idea of classes, stats and ranks and judge for our selves, on whatever we want.

After all, this is a mapping site, and your work is a very good indicator of your ability and personality, since mapping IS an escapist Art form.
