This was kinda off the top of my head, but what if people from twhl banned together to make some uber mod of doom.....not sure if it would work but i think it would be really cool cuz we would have so many ideas and people ranging from mapping to coding.....what do you all think?

yes.. that would be a good idea.

Everyone get's a part of the level to finish then pass it on to the next person on the list via email. I like it!

i call to be the 5th person if were doing it. :)

well the only way to get it to work is if a bunch of people contribute otherwise, well, it just would be the twhl project....so thats why im not getting too excited

The only problem is that most of the people here dont want to map with others that dont "Qaulify" to there level of skills so they will pass it up.....well at least thats what i think though i am probobly wrong

its a bad idea to have it so it gets passed on... you need a hyeracy... overwise you just end up with a mish mash of different styles of mapping...

maybe it could be done like they did half-life:
team 1 - mapping
team 2 - texturing. (texture creation, and alignment etc.)
team 3 - Props... (adding little details)
team 4 - lighting and atmos
team 5 - Technical (adding mechanisma)

then you have coders, modelers, graphics people... etc etc.

some kinda hyeracy like that would work alot better. remember project quantum leap... :S i didn't like that because it was too all over the place.

DONT MAKE THIS PLEASE! i am making a present for TWHL and its somewhat like this. Its featuring everyone's good HLDM maps. Hence the mod making questions...

yes bryce thats exactly what i mean.....like these people do all of the mapping....then sent to these people who do all the fine detailing then sent to the lighting people that really know how to light up something....but the main reason why i want to do this is just for the fun of it.

There was a project started like this by andy a while ago. It failed. Miserably. I dougt we will do it again, but in the meantime, I started the famous "I got an Idea" project, where we each make a room and keep passing it along. see it in the maps n' mods, although, the origional was deleted when andy started cleaning the place up.

oh, well after the new site came up i lost the internet for a long time so i was never able to come and see what was going on......it probobly failed because people werent dedicated enough, and as i said this would only work if people want to do it....otherwise thats fine....it was just a sugjestion......and if it did happen there would have to be leaders of each catagory of work

I would do it.

People were dedicated to The Project, but I think it failed because none of the maps were good enough, if I remember correctly.

The MANAGER godly music Leader of the project, who supervises and watches what EVERYBODY makes to work EXACTLY how he visions it.

You should have audio people, who are responsible for making sound and music, AND make the Sentences.txt and create the speech sounds.

Mappers (duh) But also they can request things from other people who do diffrent things.

Modelers and Sprite"ers" They create sprites and models

Graphic people They create the logos, the menue logos and backgrounds, The promo pictures, and anything else that calls for em.

A website dood. Makes the site, and promotes the mod

Scripters They make the monsters in the maps, and tune them to work how the manager wants it done, and uses the speeches that the audio people make.

The Lighters Set the atmosphere and lighting for ALL the maps. The manager tells them what kind of feeling he/she wants for the map. They erase any TEMPORARY lighting that the mappers use to test their maps.

The repairmen! They check the level RMFs they are assigned for ANY problems WHATSOEVER.

The props "like mentioned up there" They set touchups like Boxes, and cups and objects (the modelers make em), ect.

The scripters. They code the FDG and engine to work for the mod (might i ask that it be based off spirit for more functionality) INCLUDING the monster intities (behavior, AI, and set the model uses [that the modelers make....])

and thats about it.....

I think i would be qualified to be a lighter, or a mapper

I'll volunteer for general graphics and a site.

I disagree with "lighters" though. Mappers make it, mappers light it. The first "scripters" seems pointless too, but I agree with:
  • mappers
  • modellers
  • sprite artists
  • general graphics
  • site and promotion
  • coders

Splitting the mapping up into lighting, mapping, scripting etc. is stupid.
A mapper must do everything in the map, building it, lighting it, placing models, setting up scripts, add monsters. Everything else would result in totaly chaos.

Not exactly. If I am good at Architecture and lighting, but I am really bad with scripting and things, I could make the structure of the map and the lighting, then give it to someone else, and tell them where to put monsters and scripts.

All that is needed is communication.

for the project im making, hopefullt everyone can help. Send me those HLDM maps!

But this is only the first version, next time, theyrll be better weapons and youll hav to map directly to this mod, not just HL. :)

thats why we have IRC for communication... although MSN would be more appropriate.

as for the thing with the mappers, i think for a project of this size we would end up waiting a long time for the mappers to finnish the mapping if they had to tweak all the lighting them selves thats why it might be a good idea to split the mapping proccess its self into smaller proccesses. also when i said lighters i didn't mean the mappers would be leaving it totally up to them i ment the mappers would light it but then the lighters would tweak the lighting tones etc to get it just right.

hmm, at cpcp.tk we got a similair project, only then its a dm mod for ourself,s we got all our own charters wiht new weapons and that sort of stuff. but we are not a big community so it its easier to organize.

yah, im leaving for a while so i cant do work on the mod. I think if this mod works, we can put it on the mod im working on as a single player mode.

ok heres the deal....IF....people want to do it, i want you to send me and email to SPIRIT_CAT@msn.com and if you do when you write me a message....put the subject as twhl project, cuz most likely your email will go into the junk folder, tell me what your main position would be and one other thing that your good at.....ex. Best: Mapping Good: Scripting If i get enough people then i start a thread on different ideas, like story lines, new characters, weapons, etc.......but as i said before.....its just something i would like to do but can only do it if people are willing to do it.
