I can't seem to find my .mdl or .spr files. Do I have to use a .pak viewer or something? The only models in my valve/models folder is my player folder.

If you still have WON, which uses paks, get Steam, as WON is dead. You need GCFScape to open the Steam GCF files which house all the files such as sprites and models.

http://steampowered.com get Steam there.

http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Nemesis get GCFScape there.

I was kinda hoping not to have to install steam on my computer this time. Is there a way around that? If not I guess I'll have to. :(

Well I wasnt planning on using this for multiplayer. I guess I'll have to install Steam sooner or later. Can someone tell me how I set up Hammer to use Steam?

It's similar to the WON setup. Set the folders to steamsteamappsusernamehalf-life , then valve, tfc, etc.

After I install Steam and have put all my games onto it, can I uninstall halflife from the Sierra folder?
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-11 03:07:39 UTC Post #50017
Yes. If you need to... but it'd probably be a good idea to keep it for map-testing purposes as it's a lot quicker and easier.

If you're short on space, you could just delete the mod directories in Half-Life, leaving the original HL stuff (probably only need valve, but don't count on it).

Well I usually like to keep my computer very clean and free of unneeded files. I guess I could keep it, and just create a new configuration for testing.

A couple more questions:
Ok, GCFscape doesnt work. I get an error whenever I try to run it.

Where is the HL excutable? All the nothing in the halflife folder starts up halflife. The HL Launcher starts up steam.

Well, I've set it up so that my valvemaps directory is in two places at once, so that every map I compile and put in WON HL is in Steam HL's map directory too. Little tool called Winbolic Link (NTFS only for the more powerful NTFS junctions, which are the ones you need for anything decent).

The hl.exe file with Steam needs to be run through the launcher and cannot be run through the EXE as only one copy can be open at a time :/ . Make sure to run your map manually via console and not after compile.

You need that .net framework file (23mb) available from Nem's siite in order to run GCFScape.

Unless you have an up-to-date version of XP or possibly some other OSes - Seventh

Hmm. In that case, what does the error message say?

The application failed to initlize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

that is the error you get when you havent got the windows update. just get the damn file they asked you to get (23mb one)
and if you don't want this for multiplayer why in god's name are you getting steam, why not just use Wally and unpack the pak0.pak file in Sierra/Half-Life/valve ??!?!?!?!!!?!?!?! :

No one told me that I could do that!!!!

I'd think otherwise.

That error is most definitely caused by having outdated NET runtime framework. Just get the file and youll be okay.

Forget it, I'm not going to use steam and GCFscape. I'm not making multiplayer maps, and I don't like playing online.

I've got wally, how do I use it to get my sprites, models and sounds into the game?

ooohhhhhhh
No need for exporting I see. Cool, thanks Peace and Love for telling me I could use Wally. I forgot it could explore pak files.
