I've noticed that monster_turret, monster_miniturret and monster_sentry only shoot barneys, scientists, and aliens. And you. Yet for some reason they don't shoot assassins or grunts. How do I create turrets which do this (Could be func_tank, maybe?), I'd like to create a level where a place is being invaded by humans, and you need to activate autoguns to filter them out. How do I do this? I don't want to just stand by a controllable turret throughout the level (Perfect Dark players, does this sound familiar?)!

Problem with turrets is that they were never meant to take out friendlies.
Have you thought of targeting a little func_train and having that cover an area where the humans are going to be?

Tried it with a still func_train. Didn't work. Neuther did info_target. The tank is determined to take ME out.

I've been trying to do the same thing, but just can't get it to work...
My machinegun-turret does great against me, barney and our alien buddies, but it will not fire on grunts...

Any suggestions?
Help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.
While we're at it, any idea how to give barney an AR? :)

yeah remodel barney

That won't make him fire an AR, though.

You need to re-code HL to have AR wielding Barnies.

All the turrets in HL were grunt-placed ones.

Do what Andy said, unless you can think of a better idea.

Since doing what Andy suggested doesn't work, the only options are
totry it in sohl, but then it wouldn't really be playable by anyone else unless of course I encorporate sohl into an entire mod of my own...
The other option is to make the entire thing into an animation, and having the grunts take damage from something random like grenades...
But then the turret wouldn't actually shoot them, would it..?

Another option might be to switch the barney and grunt models,
so it looks like the turret kills grunts... But that would be a lot of hassle and would kill the gameplay... and the barneygrunts would only have those sissy pistols...

So I think the only real option here is to install sohl and see if I can get it to work then, and adding a copy of sohl to my map for others...
After all, sohl is backward compatible, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

Maybe one could use a bot as backup player in single play, kind of
like a more usefull barney, which could use the turret to shoot grunts??

I know bots can shoot alright in CS, but I don't know if they can use or
control a turret, or can be programmed to do so...
I don't even know if you can get bots to work in single play...

Does anyone know?

I posted this topic in Summer 2003. It is now September 2004. That must be the biggest bump in TWHL history. I wouldn't recommend bumping topics. And as for the answer, it can't be done in normal HL.
