Does anyone know any good places to get some custom sounds. I would love to use em, but I dont have many of em. And FREE.... thats a definate.

Get a microphone and make your own. Its quite fun. There are great sound editing programs that you can use, like goldwave, to play around with the sounds.

Let me just say this,
There are many different aspects of being well rounded in the Half-Life mapping world:

Mapping
Moddeling
MODing
Coding
Sound
Texturing
Plotting (writing story-lines.)
and many more...

Its great to be well rounded with each. Its a good idea to get to know the basics of each of them, then you can choose your path, and follow it.

My mic SUCKS BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD.. My dad got it for like 2 bucks and its got the worst sound quality ive ever heard..And I have no source of income, so I cant get one..

Just search for free wav files on google. You should find a whole bunch of generic files that'd be good for mapping. Be sure to credit the source however.

11000 hz -or 22000hz 8bit mono make sure its in that format when u go to cut your sounds

i would really recommend Cool edit Pro, which has recently doubled in price and changed names...... to somthing else

I have no source of income at 16. But i never buy anything so i dont really need one, the money i get from birthdays every year last until the next birth day, plus ive looked and all my local places require that you have a job, and i aint working in a hairdressers.
