When i start hammer the logo shows up and then crashes with the text "valve hammer editor has crashed plz describe this problem for microsoft bla bla"

Hm, well, it'll be good for the future anyway.
Try 3.4 if you're presently using 3.5b, or use 3.5 if you have 3.4 now.

I previusly had hammer 3.4 but i have upgraded to 3.5b and it dont work anyway, is it something with windows?

Maybe there's something wrong with you videocard. Hammer uses opengl to display its 3D camera view, and if you videocard or videocard drivers are corrupt, Hammer can crash. Try updating your drivers, play some games and see if these crash too.

I have tried mostly everyting, the worst thing is that when you start hammer it crashes before its even open, so its very hard to find whats wrong.
And fileplanet thats so good have just the beta exe they dont have the installation!

The Beta exe replaces the old exe file. Just put it straight into the Hammer folder and let it replace the old one.

Im downloading worldcraft v3.0 now and see if that works. another thing is that i have checked that the setting for OpenGL is ok, just got to test it now .

Muzzle has mentioned the most realistic approach to this problem, hammer will only crash for a couple of reasons, and one of those is teh video rendering, if you have a shitty graphics card you probably won't be able to run hammer.
Re-install everything, (not HL), but just hammer, delete your hammer folder, and re-install, it might be that you have accidently moved a vital dll file without knowing it.

I have re installed hammer twice now and it still dont work.
When i downloaded worldcraft 3.3 it worked
I cant see a difference between hammer/worldcraft 3.4 and 3.3
But i still dont understand why Worldcraft works but hammer crashes?

Hmm.. I cant find any updates that can cause problems but it can be that my computer crashed with HL and Hammer running.
And with crash i mean that the whole computer crashed and have to use the reset button. But it was not the first nor last time it crashed and i did not use hammer that day anymore, and i think it crashed next day too, but that was sims 2 that crashed.
