hey guys. I just downloaded the HL2 SDK so i could use it. Except when i enter hammer, it is increadibly slow and a message pops up saying something like " high system load" to make faster try making undo levels smaller. I made them 10 but its still really slow. It take like 5 minutes to fully load the HL2 WAD when im browsing textures. any help? ta

yeah, hammer 4 runs way slower than hammer 3.4... for me anyway. i noticed that mine now runs faster than it did whin i first installed it. i dont know if it's because of updates or what (probably is), but you can try making sure you have nothing else running in the background and taskbar, etc. also, you can post your system specs so we can see if its because your system has only so many resources.

Or, on XP (Pro only, possibly):

Winkey+R, taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

how much RAM do you have? the minimum for hl2 is something like 256mb isnt it? just be on the safe side and get 1GB+.

I use 512mb RAM, not even ddr. Runs fine.

wel... you have mystical powers or something. how does it run with other programs in the background?

Dc++, Bittorrent, peerblocker, Kerio Firewall, deamon toolz, msn messenger.
Runs fine.

Here are some of my specs:

Cpu: 1400 mhz AMD athlon - Unclocked
Ram: 512mb
OS: Win XP SP1
Video Card: Geforce 4 64mb
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Live! series

Medium Detail, simple reflections, no anti-aliasing. 800 x 600 x 32.
HL2 runs perfect and looks awesome. ;)

I'm gonna get Hammer 4 working in Cedega later. Hammer 4 will run much smoother on Linux without all of winblow's shitty background apps. Linux can runs in 1 to 2 processes, and how many does winblows use, 50? or so? You should always have 1gb minimum for gaming. I used to have 2gb but it limited my overclocking, so I took 2 sticks out. Hah, I bash Microsoft or Windows in almost every post! OWNED MICROSOFT!

How big are the processes though, m0p?

We all know Windoz is crap,
Bit pointless saying it everytime you log on?
