Recently I adquired the habit of grouping several func_wall entities into one, for example, I have an square room with seven pipes running through the ceiling and I select the seven and turn them into func_wall all at once.
Is this good or should I make separate entities???. Will it affect my r_speeds??. Does the engine render the whole entity??.
Thanks.

it tends to render it all at the same time as one big entity, if large enough a spacing between the entites, they will probably ALWAYS be rendered.

Be sure once you've done it to go into hammer 'check for problems', select each of the 'empty solid' entries, close the box and press delete. You have to do this for each one or you'll just have a load of empty entites in your map.

Sometimes this can reduce entity counts, but its hard to know when to use this or not, my advice is stick to single entities and not big huge ones.

All rights. Thanks guys, think I catch the thing :).

however sometimes you have to use this if you have too many solid entities in your map, the usual limit for multiplayer maps hovers around 300 (and not the 400 claimed as the max)

That?s why I do it. I?ve had some problems with that and of course, some problems of "Too many visible entities in the area" wich were solved this way.

Visibility errors usually cause this error, running full vis solves this - usually

Never group func_walls if they are transparent/translucent. You won't be able to see the parts behind through the front part.
