AGH! How do you make a WORKING level change? I saw the tutorial but it says nothing about how to change a level and not be able to change it back. In my mod-in-the-making, Interception, I am trying to make it so that when you walk up to a door in a room you end up in an airplane in the next level. I have 2 landmarks, 1 in the room and 1 in the airplane. They are both labeled "landmark"(no quotes in the name). And I have the trigger_changelevel set up so it says to change levels to the next map and it labels the landmark. BUT HERES THE PROBLEM: The map change works, but when I get to the map I'm dead and floating in the middle of the map.

If the landmarker have wrong or no name the player go to the map center. Give the both Landmarker a short name ex: map_a1 and type in the name in the trigger_changelevel.
In the Map Valut/exempel map is a map "Changelevels" look in the rmf.file how it shall be.
And if you Search on trigger_changelevel in the forum, you find 14 topics
with good reading.

T;ax, if you read the whole thing I said I named them both "landmark" and I ddi searches, I have used the map. Im not tying to sound mean but for future reference, If I put a problem in the forums, It will most likely be something I've tried everything else for but still failed.

If you mean to put the landmarks in the same coordinates on boths maps, I just did. But it still didn't work. Yes, they are lined up from front view, top view, and side view.

I know, put the info_Landmark near the ceiling. Thats what I did. If that doesn't work, download the example map from the tut and copy the info landmarks and level change things from it, and change the name of the level to change to.

I can't use the teleporter method! I end up dead on the other side of the map change! And even If I COULD use it, I wouldn't, there would be a teleporter in the place that you need to go next in the map. You fall down a big tube in the center of the map, If there is a teleporter there then I wont be able to proceed.

Try to change the name ex: land on the landmarker and one again! the both landmarker same name and in the both trigger_changelevel.

The way you guys talk to me tells me you din't read the whole first post. THE LANDMARKS BOTH HAVE THE SAME NAME! I CAN'T USE THE TELEPORTER METHOD BECAUSE I AM DEAD ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP CHANGE! I HAVE THE LANDMARKS ON THE SAME COORDINATES! I HAVE TRIED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SUGGESTED TO ME! IF YOU WANT TO HELP FIX MY PROBLEM, FIRST FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Am I right in guessing that you don't actually want to be dead in the second map?
Are you actually dead or just stuck?

What everyone is trying to tell you is that the position of the landmarks is really important. If the second landmark is too close to anything you will end up stuck.
You also need two trigger_change levels. Do you have two? From your initial post, you say you have set the trigger up... not that you have set them both up.

I don't want 2 trigger_changeleves. Your not suposed to be able to go back to the original map. And in response to the dead or stuck thing: The camera is sideways, I can't move anything BUT the camera, but when I left click, the loading screen doesn't come up, I am dead and "alive" at the same time. And 3rd (sorry for rambling on every post I have made) I don't even end up where the landmark is in the first place.

You must have two trigger_changelevels.... even if you don't use them.
This might be the problem.
The trigger_changelevel in the second map can be really small and where the player can not get to it. Also tick the "use only" flag, but either way.... there must be two trigger_changelevels!

Agh, NOW he tells me. OK, sorry if I sounded REALLY REALLY angry before, it was just annoying.

Not being able to change levels and all. I hope this works...
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-16 20:41:13 UTC Post #12299
Agh! The level change works! I am alive at the other end but now there's another problem! Actually there is 2 problems.

1: I don't end up where I want to be, even though both landmarks are in the same place.
2: I put the G man in the first map and when I change levels, HE IS STILL THERE!
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-16 22:37:35 UTC Post #12315
Glad it worked...
Now try configuring the trigger_changelevels so that you go to the right map.
Map 1 trigger_changelevel to map 2 (newmap).. and map 2 trigger_changelevel to map 1 (oldmap). Landmarks the same name on both triggers.

I really must go back and look at Kol's tutorial? I thought this was all covered?

You know andy, if I DIDN'T halfway fix it, I wouldnt be in the right map. I have been changing levels to the right map the whole time, but there have been other problems. I know how to set up which map to go to. I am not a new person at mapping. I am quite experienced. And if you have been reading my posts you woukld have realized that you just said everything I already had set up at the very begining!!!!!!! READ THE OTHER POSTS IF YOU WANT TO HELP. WHY IS THAT SO HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-17 04:20:57 UTC Post #12335
Whoa, calm down. Don't have a go at Andy, that's really not a good way to get helped since he's the most knowledgable regular here!
Not sure that's right? the bit about being the most knowlegetical and all... :-) but you are right about the wrong way to go about getting help!(ed:Andy)

Either you or him must have misunderstood something, okay?

I have read all your other posts not just on this thread but on all the forums.
You have not told us what your trigger_changelevel settings are or how your landmarks settings are configured.... You have only told us that they are where they should be, and named the same.

Since you didn't understand the basic concept of two trigger_changelevels, I thought that you might not have the rest set up correctly.

I guessed that you had not changed maps at all because the Gman was only in one map, so you might have gone back to map 1. (mad but logical). The only other cause for this is testing in GOD mode, entities sometimes follow if the trigger to spawn something is happening when the level change is triggered. Either that or the Gman was actually in the trigger area?

Most of the forum posts you make deal with CS.
It would be silly to ask if you are trying to place a level change in CS, wouldn't it !! ?
After all, you are an "experienced mapper".........
Which makes me wonder why you are having trouble with this in the first place. ;)
If all else fails try reading Complex Level Changes at Collective.

Yeah but there's only 1 problem; the level changes don't work in the examples they provide which is very poor.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-02 05:59:55 UTC Post #38202
First, this is an old thread, you don't have to revive it.

Second, you've probably not compiled both maps. Then it's obvious the level change doesn't work.
