Well, one of the threads was started a while back (before I even joined, I think), and I thought it would be pretty neat to do it again, since most of you have probably changed your desk configurations by now.

So, post a picture of your computer area, to let the whole of TWHL scrutinize. :)

You're right, I should empty our kitchen trash can over my desk. That might make it look a little more "normal".

Orpheus is right, try to keep your images under 300 kb and no bigger than 1280x1024 if you can, and either use a thumbnail or link to the image.

:P

All my stuff is compressed onto that desk

What the image doesn't show:

-The printer/scanner has got loads of sketches under the lid and acts as a file.
-The USB cables round the back glow blue nut only works in the dark.
-There is a picture of a sheep above my monitor
-The printer is resting on one of the structural bars on the side where it overlaps the desks edge. The other side is propped up on top of the Final Fantasy 7 PSone case.

I feel sorry for you people on the small 17inch single screen.

EDIT: Orp,

i baught 2 LG 1919S flatron Flatscreens, 19 inch and rather cheep actualy. I wouldnt go with widescreen, just because it still has a few sideeffects in games, as cutting of the edges of the screen, or strechting it out instead of widening the angle.

i have a very little dead pixle at the bottom, i noticed it one in the last 2 months, and frankly, the space is used by my taskbar.

The price was cheap, only 218 euro's a piece, probably a bit more expensive in the USA because of the low course of the Dollar. No side-effects in games, and it saves a whole lot of deskroom, let me show you a set-up of my old desktop.

Heres my desk in januari 2006, i had just finishd rigging my flightstick to my chair, unfortunately the structure gave in from the throttle quadrant, so now im replacing the armrest with a wooden structure.

You can see the hughe amount of space the 2 CRT screens take up, the 2 19inch screens are roughly located below the glass/yellow rim.

Sorry 'bout the size.

My journal entry has a few more photo's and info on the flight-setup.

i had the flatscreens since december 2006, i believe the 21st. My bro and dad also have one of these, i just knew i had to switch when i saw the amazing colour differance between a CRT and a LCD. Everything looked much more alive and prettier.

yeah, if taken care of most of them should be able to last a few years, this is just bad luck really, and it isnt important enough to go back to the store, LG has a warranty so that they will replace the screen.

I have no problem with my widescreen whatsoever. Although it stretches the image for games that don't have widescreen resolutions, it's not really much of a problem for me. Most games (or the newer ones, at least) have some kind of hack allowing you to use a widescreen mode if it isn't natively supported. For some older games (WON Half-Life included) it's impossible for me to get a widescreen mode working, but If I don't know the game very well, then I rarely notice any stretching.

However, if you can get your widescreen to give you black bars on the sides, then that's perfect. There's no downside to that mode at all, since it wouldn't have been widescreen in the first place.

Now, contrary to what most people say about them, I don't think they improve your gaming experience much at all. What I do think they're good for is general desktop work, and viewing folders, browsing web pages, mapping, or whatever you do inside your OS's environment is way better when you have all that extra horizontal space to work with. While dual screens may be an even better option for this, that's not a reasonable option for most people, whether it's because of money or space limitations.

Why yes, yes it is and if you don't repent he'll fucking smite you all night.

Urbanebula: That is seriously lame. Your entire desk is smaller than my subwoofer.

@alex: Why not just get soda in it then? or OJ? =D Maybe beer...

@ZL: Amen to that.

@srry: Yeah w/e.

Ohh, I just noticed both my speakers/subwoofer and headset are ALTEC LANSING. Neato. And don't mind my tiny iPod... shuffles are awesome.

Oh and you can't see inside of my case because of angle, but w/e again.

Orph you're a 40 year old gamer and you don't have a flatscreen yet? What kind of sick nightmare world are you living in?
1) Have you had them long enough to have any issues of note?
2) What kinds do you have? Widescreen or not.
No and no, 1280 x 1024 LCD.

A couple of pictures of where the work gets done now, as my last desk snapped in half. I try and keep it tidy to some extent, except for the big mess of cables I need to organize sometime. I also moved it near my bed a few months ago hoping to be able to work in bed but its a pain in the ass so it don't happen.

Seeing pictures of Rabid's room is like seeing pictures of Bill Gates' house for me, except that there's no really expensive stuff laying around. :P

But really, what's up with the huge-ass Maglite and industrial looking walkie-talkie there?

I got the parking meter sign many years ago - they were renovating downtown, they had a big dumpster full of parking meters, so we took a few. I use it as a coaster ;P - I've got a bunch of other signs suitable as such but they're a bit big.

The maglite is good for UrbEx and other situations that call for a lot of light, and the walkie-talkie is a fun toy (I've programmed it so I can listen to the local public safety frequencies).

I was about to edit my post to say i have a roadcone in my closet that i.. uhh.. 'legally obtained'. I use it to hold my hats.

Urban exploration would be great, i want to buy myself a nice quality camera and go snap some shots of Kal's more interesting areas.. (they're hard to find :P).
